There is a major difference between Samuel and Cromartie. Samuel is actually a smart player who liked to gamble way too often. Cromartie is just athletic. He's horrible in coverage and a lousy tackler. I would not give up Maroney for Cromartie.
And I see no problems in the secondary, but if some people insist the Patriots get someone, I'd rather they get Marlin Jackson who's a better cover corner. His injuries mas scare some off, but he's the only guy I see the Patriots having a realistic chance at having. The Colts are going to have to spend their money on Bethea or Jackson and I'm pretty sure they will go with Bethea.
What? There is no way Marlin Jackson is a better cover corner than Cromartie. I just threw it out there as a possibility, but I would take Cromartie over Jackson.
The knock on Cromartie has been his lack of effort regarding tackling, and the Jets' game incident is being blown up in epic fashion by SD fans b/c they're looking for scapegoats just like we've used Maroney and Wilhite. Cro's always been good at staying with his man and making plays on the ball. He has great speed and quickness, and even though he's not a very physical tackler, he's still a pretty good press corner. He did a hell of a job on Moss in the AFCCG in the midst of the greatest season ever by a WR. He was able to stay with the best WR in the game that year. I actually thought Cromartie had a pretty nice bounce back year after playing injured in 08, but after that Jets game he's been victimized and ripped to shreds.
I don't know I've always given Maroney the benefit of the doubt and have wanted him to succeed, but after seeing Taylor and Morris miss time due to injuries and still be able to produce like him, I'm ready to move on. If we could get someone of Cromartie's talent talent for Maroney, I'd do it. I think he'd flourish under Belichick especially if we upgraded the pass rush.
