Rapoport also opined that with just mediocre quarterback play this season, the 3-11 Patriots could be looking at a nine- or 10-win season.

The WR's are mediocre at best. Special teams is bad. The Oline has been up and down but mostly down. A mediocre QB doesn't fix any of that.

Only mediocre QB play and they get 9-10 wins? No.

Defense is good enough to hang around, but not take over games. No defense is. You need an offense to score against teams like Dallas, Miami who bullied the Pats. Struggling Buffalo got 25 on them and needed a Mac led game winning drive to win. A bad KC offense got 27 with an assist from that Zappe INT. The Saints put up 27 on them. A QB needs more than what the Pats have on offense.

49ers are the so called best D in the NFL and they just allowed 29 to a terrible Cards team.

A mediocre QB isn’t missing the reads and not throwing to the right receiver on time.
A mediocre QB isn’t throwing choke laden interceptions.

10 makes all of those other players look worse, a mediocre qb absolutely fixes a lot of that.

This year has been so bizarre. ****e special teams, bad QB play, poor coaching, strange personel decisions, sloppy and undisciplined play, poor to dreadful OL play.
Our QB issues are just one piece of this abject crapfest. This is a rotten all around football team.

There are at least 4 games, unquestionably that were lost and would have been wins with a mediocre QB. That’s 7-7 at worst. Not even counting the games we were out of it before the first quarter because of qb turnovers.

You don't get to 3-11 by mistake.

I am confident that with FA and the draft, the potential is there for a much better 2024 if there is a solid vet QB in place.

Who knows what happens this season with decent to good QB play ? There are many factors to consider and the exercice is almost futile.

By my count, with average QB play, they would have won the Raiders, Commanders, Colts, Giants and Chargers games. Now your 8-6 and solidly in the playoff hunt, somewhere in the 5-7 seed discussion, with the rest of the 8-6 teams. Perhaps they split with Miami and now your talking about 9-5 and fighting for the division, a game behind Miami with 3 to play. The Denver and Buffalo games become de facto playoff games, just what the NFL wants, and everyone here is licking their chops to destroy the Jete week 18. They would not have gotten flexed out of the KC prime time game, and maybe Bill doesn't go all conservative in the second half and just maybe, they beat a flawed KC team at home on Monday night.

I know everyone want to argue with Ring6 because Andy, but he's not far off here. Average QB play would have ... wait... masked a lot of the shortcomings on this roster. Hunter Henry would be having a ProBowl year and maybe Stevenson doesn't get hurt because they have other options offensively. Instead, we are talking bout a top 3 pick and waiting for the Patriots announce Bill's retirement tweet.

Would have made a huge difference.

It a moot point. If you replace Mac with Fictional League Average Guy, teams play the Pats differently. There's different tape out there of FLAG so there are different gameplans. Maybe Gonzo doesnt get hurt because the opposing team wasn't in that down or distance on that play. Maybe the Oline quickly returned to health. Maybe Owenu and Andrews go down for the season in the second game? Maybe the Buffalo game is a loss. Maybe a couple of blowout are marginally closer. Maybe not. Maybe they're wins. You don't know.

That's why its futile to play the "what-if" game.

Average QB would have us where we have been the last two years. Right around .500 and just out of range to draft a guy who can actually help turn things around. As painful as this has been we're better off this way than treading water year after year and patching things together with middling quarterbacks.
