I know Reche Caldwell best!

As others have alluded to, Chargers fans over the last couple of years have been some of the classiest visitors to this board. Sure there was a troll or two in the bunch last year, but for the most part, the SD folks added to the discussion here, even after the SD game. I wish most Fin fans here could be more like that and less troll-like. Welcome MTL, nice to hear your thoughts on Reche.

But I gotta agree with Welker83... I'm not much interested in Donnie Edwards. I think he's been great for SD in the past, but that's the past and I don't think he's stout enough against the run for an LB in our system.

WOW! ok...I know Reche best cause i used to hang out with him at UF...

There's a 5-year age difference between the two of you. In his final season with UF (fall 2001), you would have only been 17. He would have been 22.

My Bro went to UF before me...i spent the entire summer and every weekend i could there and went to a bunch of parties... I met Reche a bunch of times and watched every one of his college games... But then when i enrolled their the following year i really met a bunch of guys... Rex Grossman, Taylor Jacobs and my absolute favorite Keiwan Ratliff now with the bengals... Keiwan was just plain crazy!

Donnie wasn't cut but I am under the impression that he may very well be within the next month or so. If he isn't, I have heard that the asking price is a first day draft pick (3rd rounder would probably do). Our GM AJ Smith isn't really enamored of him and with the emergence of our young inside linebackers Matt Wilhelm and Stephen Cooper (as well as our 5th round selection this year in Tim Dobbins) we are not clinging to Donnie for dear life and he is expendable. Nevertheless, he is an awesome coverage linebacker and can shadow tight ends very well. His athelticism allows him to make plays sideline to sideline even at his current age, and he's also a great leader and leaves it all on the field. Too bad AJ Smith doesn't value him, he is a fan favorite and he will be missed when he leaves

Can you guys take the cap hit? What's his salary? Do you think we could get him for cheaper if you cut him, or do you think that he's going pull a Ty Law and demand money that he doesn't deserve? Thanks for posting .

2006 3.55 million
2007 4.82 million

And he does want a raise from that... I heard in the 5 million range. his stats favorably mirror Zach thomas's so he wants what he's making which is:
2006 4.95 million
2007 5.65 million
2008 5.65 million

MTL welcome.

Its nice to hear from fans of other clubs who visit without the intention to merely troll. I like the Chargers chances but admit that switching QBs is iffy. In the case of Rivers though, he appears to be a smart leader type and he won't have half the team rooting for the other guy.

I could see the Chargers winning the West but on the iffy scale I'd have to consider Denver weaker, but with fewer questions, so a favorite but a beatable one.

it seems to me most usually that WR breakout in their third year. I thin Reche was doing that only to have the season ruined about a third of the way in by the ACL. Last year was the get well ACL year, and if he can adapt to the Patriots game I also think we got a good one.

I don't fully understand why the Chargers let him go. Was it the GM? Was it Marty? Was he a pawn in a power play? Did he do something to irritate Marty? Or was it that other guys just passed him by?

Good Luck and I hope to see you guys in the AFCG...

Well Reche was in Marty's doghouse for some reason (another player who was in Marty's doghouse was Michael Turner our backup RB who is a STUD) and our GM AJ Smith is in love with our 2nd round pick in 2005 Vincent Jackson, who is an incredible physical specimen at 6'5 240 with 4.5 speed.

I would love to see you guys in the AFCG it would be one hell of a match. I know Brady was really upset after we beat you last year so I figure he will bust his arse to get his revenge the next time we meet. It would also be nice to see the Hitman again :rocker:

It's easy to be classy when you live next to the beach, the weather is perfect 95% of the time, everyone is laid back, and there are multiple fun things to do any day!!!

Welcome, MTL... I think people may have gone off a bit on the self promotional aspect of your original thread... as has been said before, it's an endless summer around here, and people are gettin' ornery. I just posted the entirety of "The Battle of New Orleans" to piss off our resident Brits, for example. We're just not well.

I've always been an Edwards fan, and I do think he can hold his own against the run; he just can't be the run-stuffing centerpiece. My thought on Edwards? From your lips to BB/SP's collective ears. He's always played smart, ultra-aware, and tough, and if I'm not mistaken, he has the pro bowl appearances and high solo tackle totals to show for it.

Brady seems impressed. And for god sakes whoever said the reason the Patriots got Caldwell was to shut people up, they are complete morons and idiots. Bellichick got him, I wonder why he didnt go for a better known wide reciever. Sure it costs them money but, he was the first aqquisition of the off season. I saw a few games, I remember an incredible jumping catch against us. And in a few others he showed great athleticism, jumping very well and had some good hands. I cant wait to see him get out there and playing with Brady. Brady can make a good WR look great, and a decent one, good.

I know we signed Caldwell before the draft, but maybe that was part of the reason for drafting Chad Jackson. Drop in Jeremy Mincey, plus all the Florida UDFA's we brought in and there's alot of Gator flavor to this years new class.

Maybe BB beleives some familiarity will breed success, especially with the stigma following around Florida WR's in the league.

Thanks for your opinions and welcome to the board. As some have said before me, most Charger fans that have posted on this board have been respectful and classy.

Good luck and I hope we do see you in the AFCCG.

are you sure about Edwards? Because i heard stats dont show all because most his tackles are after 4 yard gains and hes not as good as the #s show. i heard it from a few SD fans

I thought the Cincy posters were OK too.

I did not think any fans could be worse than those entitled Steeler fans (before they won), until we got all the Bronco trolls.

I'm going to the Chargers board to introduce myself as a famous poster from NE! :cool3:

Glad to have you MTL! I think Reche might not be replaced by Chad Jackson as early as some people think!

Unless Rivers is a terrible QB i dont see how the chargers will tread water or decline. THey will be one of the better teams. They have a good offense and a good defense.

Oh and welcome MTL.

Doesn't make sense to trade a guy who can QB at a very high level, and then go with a guy who may be able to do just that.

Is Rivers upside that good? Will he be able to realize that potential? SD fans and management certainly are banking on it.

As for Caldwell, them man can flat out play, just needs to stay healthy.
