I guess Chris Hogan just really loves football

Another interesting factoid is that Belichick was a member of the NY Giants coaching staff under Ray Perkins before Parcells arrived. That means that both NY teams passed on Belichick for Parcells. Woops.
There's only one team that plays in New York, and it's neither the Jets nor the Giants.

I don't think we can call it stolen if we let a player go and they get picked up by a member of the AFC Least.

I think C-Mart has more regrets than we do after following Tuna Crap to NJ. We went on to win multiple SBs and he'll be a Jet forever.

How could I forget Lawyer 'They Hate Their Coach' Milloy?
Stolen might be the wrong word.

Too stupid to recognize how good of a player they were might be better.

CMart made his money. Not sure what regrets he has, if any

He runs great routes, he's always open, his hands are fantastic, he can outrun pursuit, and he loves to block. I'd kill to have that kind of limited skill set.

You are overselling him here. If he was always open he would have more than 40 catches. If you look at the film, I bet he is not. He catches very few underneath balls. I do not think he runs great routes in tight spaces. He does not seem to catch a great number of out routes. He is a very useful piece of our offense, but is not yet an all-around WR.

Hogan has been a starter 1 year, a pro for 4 years and played 1 year CFB at Monmouth. I would be stunned if he was a truly complete WR.

A close reading of the article shows that this is before they actually hired Parcells. Belichick spent a week as interim HC of the NYJ while Tuna and the Jest negotiated his contract. So, Belichick was twice named head coach of the Jets and never coached a game as their head coach.

BB probably couldn't find a ****tail napkin the first time around with the Rats.

For God's sake.

He's not literally always open. I'm sure he's covered sometimes. He's "always open" in football terms.

Saying "If he was always open, he'd have more than 40 catches" tells me you don't understand the Pats' offense all that well.

He doesn't catch a lot of underneath balls because that's primarily Edelman's job. When he does and the ball comes his way, he makes the play.

It's your opinion that he doesn't run great routes in tight spaces. The games say you're wrong, but it's your opinion.

"He doesn't catch a great number of out routes?" Seriously? How many balls have gone his way on out routes?

The guy does everything he's asked to do, and whatever he's asked to do, he does very well.

At any rate, you talked about his skill set, which I pointed out was excellent. You shifted to production on specific routes, because you know that your original point sucks.

The man has caught 34 passes this year - barely 2 a game. And some have even argued that he is our #1 receiver (not you I realize). Look at what JoJo Lafell did in 2014, when a #2 WR had a truly great year. I love what Hogan has brought, but he is a limited part of the offense as we are running it. He can take the top off the defense, and that is very helpful to make the rest of the offense succeed.

LaFell was a possession guy, not a deep threat. He averaged under 13 per catch, whereas Hogan is over 19. If Hogan played the LaFell role, there's little doubt he'd match (most likely exceed) LaFell's production. Remember how all LaFell could do was catch and fall down? Hogan gets serious YAC.

Once again, you're arguing production, which is dependent upon a zillion other factors, instead of your original point about Hogan's "limited skill set." Hogan's skill set, including his athletic measurables, is excellent.

Hogan is not the type of receiver that gets multiple targets on a drive. But lose track of him and he can be standing in the end zone. A bit limited skill set perhaps, but a needed addition.

Kinda reminds me of David Givens in a sense that he's not targeted as often as the top reciever (s) but when he is, he usually makes good things happen. Not as physical but makes up for it with a little bit more speed.

Who is arguing Hogan is the #1 receiver? When the offense was completely healthy he was the 4th or 5th option.

If you want to argue that 2014 LeFell > Hogan as a receiver the numbers support your claim but I don't think they are used the same. They have different roles in the offense.

There are also other factors at play.

In 2014 they threw the ball 609 times.

This year they'll throw it around 550 and also have ~50 less completions compared to 2014. Thats a pretty substantial dropoff.

In 2014 JE11, Gronk, LaFell and Vereen accounted for 77% of the receptions

In 2016, JE11, Marty, White, Mitchell and DA account for 73% of the receptions.

My point is Hogan was always the 4th or 5th option in this offense and that is exactly what happened.

Only so many balls to go around.

Givens was targeted a lot in 04 and 05.

After the Cleveland game there were comments made that Hogan really was our #1 WR and Edelman was on the downside and was headed for #3 or #4 status. Obviously those were not serious. I do think that Mitchell will be our eventual #1 WR - his upside is greatest of all.

Not to mention Zach Sudfeld.

Ah yes, fond memories of The Summer of Studfeld.

Up until that ball bounced off his hands for a pick.
Brady HATES INTs and probably hates guys who cause them.

Hogan(and mitchell lately) brings something this team hasnt had since maybe moss. and thats someone who can get deep and burn a team. seems every game or so he has a 20+ yard catch.
