I don't get it. When we moved away i was in the 2nd grade, so i know nothing about the media there.

The general consensus seems to be that most of the New England Media are complete and utter Jerkoffs when it comes to reporting the pats.

They take cheap shots, create stories, and constantly bad mouth the pats from what i see on this board.

One of them even lashes out against the Pats b/c he's a morbidly obese loser who's never kissed a Woman.

what Gives?

I know Reiss is cool and i never read anything negative from him...
But we've had one loser media guy talking bad about Mrs. B, hiding under a name on this board, and all i read is negative stuff.

Is it b/c BB doesn't give out any info? What are these guys? 14 years old?

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME?

Because they value the Red Sox much more - and no matter the success of the Pats, it will never be a football first state.

Not that there's anything wrong with being a baseball-first State.

new england is known for negativity, fellowship of the msierable, etc.

It has nothing to do with the Red Sox, the region, etc.

It is simple, the Patriots are not media freindly. Tom Curran talked about how when he went national he could not believe the access other teams give.

Go back to Red Sox coverage during the Dan Duquette years - similar to the current Pats coverage because he wasn't media freindly. To this day he gets vilified for not resigning big fat Mo which Theo Epstein called on WEEI one of the best decisions the franchise ever made.

Reporters like to have their jobs made easy. The Pats make them hard. Therefore they hate the Pats.

I think part of it is that the team works almost exclusively in secret and does not allow reporters to get close to anyone, including players. As a beat writer that has GOT to be a pain in the ass when you are trying to do your job ("JUST DO YOUR JOB" - BB), ya know??

I'm in Atlanta and I like Reiss, read his stuff almost everyday and I like the Patriot Football Weekly guys.

It's not just that they want it easier to do their job, they want to be treated like special little princesses as well.

I remember a story about why Dan Duquette was really so disliked around here by the local media and it had more to do with him saying that the reporters could no longer eat at the Red Sox buffet table than it did to what access they could have to the team and it's coaches.

They seem to think that they above the fray. Some of them really think they're smarter than the rest of us.

I'd like to see one of them outside in a snow storm watching the game. OH NO,
they're up in the "press box" warm and dry.

It seems to me that the Patriots are ok in accomodating the media... I have only been doing it for a month or so and have been able to interview players and exchange emails with their PR department. I think you just have to be nice. It probably also helps that I don't ask any hard questions.

What media guy talked bad about Mrs B??? Who is this idiot..??

i'm the best kind of idiots.

Some guy here on this messageboard, last year, was actually a member of the New England Media, trolling, and Shmessy got him to admit it.

The dude was saying all this negative **** about Mrs. B, b/c he's jealous and probably b/c his camp reports were dog crap in comparison.

i can't remember the damn dude's name though, name all of them and ill tell you which one if it rings a bell

or ask Shmessy. he knows. T-shirt knows.

Was it Tom cassale????

lost all respect of Tom cassale if that is the case..

The lady is doing what she loves, and she even loves PFW, sometimes , with the exception of Paul Perillo, they worry more about lunch then reporting the news...

Keegs, maybe I have a rosy glasses view being here in FL - but as someone who grew up there, until I was in my mid 20's, as a sports fan of every variety, being away from the Boston Mentality yet still being a Boston fan has a bit of a different flavor, which I suspect you see as well. The area itself, the negative talk radio, the complainers, the nervous nellie's that call in, the chicken littles that cry about losing Mo Vaughan, Lawyer Milloy, Ty Law, Vinatieri, et al have a more detrimental effect on the general fans up there than if you're out of the area. As a fan out of Boston, you get to (as of the past few years) focus on the good without the bad (or at least the bombardment of the bombastic bad) and thus, I think it's actually easier to be a fan. In Boston, having been there during bad years too, there is SOOOOOO much of that "Curse" mentality, even after it was all "broken" that the New England Grumpy Gus attitude has this pervasive, cancerous feeling to it no matter how well we do. Some of that is good, there is an element of not being satisfied that also drives the players, coaches, etc to the degree that we don't sit on our laurels, but at the same time, as a fan, being surrounded by it, it's very hard not to get caught up in it too...if half the people around you tell you it's all going to end soon because "it always does" eventually you start to believe it. And if you're a sports fan listening to local talk radio, 50% becomes 75% because that's good radio up there. So, as a fan who doesn't live locally, I think we all benefit from being outside the BS but still able to enjoy the spoils of victory. Down here I see it more because there are lots of us, and I am blessed with the opportunity to "compare notes" with other transplant fans who often feel the same way. All the good, none of the bad. Yay Red Sox Nation Pats Nation et al. As that relates to the media, if 75% compaining callers is good on Talk Radio, the mediots have to figure 75% negative reporting is good news in the media too...after all, we're gloomy New Englanders right

Yea, because the media is so positive with regards to the Red Sox.

The inferiority complex on this board continues.

Bullsh!t. Boston is a baseball "city," Massachusetts in general is just as much about the Patriots as it is about the Bankofamericasox. The media with the biggest impact happens to be based in Boston. The OP misstated, decrying "Massachusetts media" and not "Boston media."

Bingo! Born/raised in MA and left when I was 27 for career reasons. Having since lived in several sports cities since then (LA/Dallas/KC), the difference in media coverage is amazing. Although I'd love to move back someday to have more opportunities to attend games (and not get ripped off by NFLST, but that's another story for another time), being an out of state fan definitely has its benefits. No day after day of drama, doom and gloom.
