We all know that if we want to win the game on Sunday we must defend well against the run. How do we stop the run this Sunday? Where are we going to put Wilfork who is our best player against the run?

Ray Rice will be lucky to run with 2 legs ... he's already a secondary factor.

OK, assuming he is at 100%, or close to, how do you propose to do it? base 3-4 two gappin? maybe bringin Chung up in the Box? Go to a 4 man front? how do you play behind that front? Do you go sub packages?

The way to shut down the Colts offense is to shut down Payton Manning, too. The question is always how, now in'nt it?

I think a 4 man front may be the best way to stuff the run but I don't see that happening. Chung looks great against the run due to his speed and toughness but having him up in the box is too close. Chung is good where he is because even if Rice gets past the linebackers he isn't getting by Chung IMO. I am not really sure what I would do though.

There's already another thread about this, but I'll give it a go here too. The base 3-4 is designed to stop the run first. That said, I, like NUT expect some 4-2-5 nickel, especially situationally. In that substitution, I would spy Rice with Spikes, put someone up on Boldin in bump and run, then play zone behind him.

edit: sorry bout that, work interrupted. The zone would be predominantly straight up cover two shell, with Chung playing sky, or force/flat responsibility.

Oh craptasticular brain fart of brain farts! I was driving home from work and it hit me how duh! I just posted. Ninko is gonna have his Heap of trouble in the 4-2-5, and Mayo will spy Rice/RB. After Miami, Ninko has more than earned that....duh.

Someone open a window or light a match!

Even if RR isn't at 100% they still have McGahee and McClain. The Pats will have their hands full with this RB rotation. If they can limit all of them to under 150 yards then I think they win.

I believe the emergence of Chung will be huge in this game. His ability to read and react to the run has progressed immensely from seasons past and he provides that extra tackler in the box without being in the box. He is able to fly down to the line of scrimmage shortly after reading a run play.

If Chung struggles, I think the team will struggle stopping the run.

if the pats want to win they need to stop joe flacco, the pats are 28th in the NFL in passing defense giveing up over 272 yerds per game and 9 TD's with a QB rateing of 91.2

Best way to do that? Someone said earlier that Flacco has fantastic numbers when blitzed. The best way to do that with Flacco is to confuse coverages, and disrupt timing. (But Shirtseeve, you ask, how does that mesh with your earlier post about playing a 4-2-5 nickel involving a basic cover two scheme? because I said cover two shell, [disguising coverages till the snap, thats how])

Any one else have some how's?

If we can stop the run effectively it will be that much harder to set up play action and for Flacco to pass the ball. Flacco isn't an elite QB and I'm not concerned with him. Last game against us Flacco did nothing and they ran all over us.

Winner! Flacco throws for >200 blindfolded against our D. No rush, no coverage. Handing off to Rice at lest keeps us in the game for a half. If we can get off the field on 3rd down it will be the first time. One of these weeks Cunningham will get in and McCourty will steal one.
