With pre-season underway, I thought it might be worth keeping an eye on some of the names we became familiar with last spring. Post your binkies, prospects you hated or any news about anyone of interest.

I'll start with this from Schefter:

Certain players just pop in preseason. You can see they can play right away. Steelers WR Markus Wheaton is one.

That's a tough one to take.

Also, Marquess Wilson had 4 catches for 82 yards for the Bears.

What is Schefter basing this on? The stat line said he had 1 catch for 10 yards....?

It's not the first tweet I've seen saying how good he looked. I don't know the answer as to how though. Might have to give the game a watch.

Start the Da'Rick Rogers hype train. Scored a TD on his first drive. From Jeff Tuel who I thought had a really good chance to be a Pat.

While I was all aboard the Rogers bandwagon during the pre-draft process, its hard to give him much credit for that TD. Corner was playing way off of him in the red zone. All he had to do was go right.

From the games I've watched, OLB Corey Lemonier (49ers), SS Duke Ihenacho (Broncos), OLB Barkevious Mingo (Browns), WR Kenny Stills (Saints) all looked like they will make a splash in the NFL.

I only watched most of the first half and didn't see Wheaton's one catch, but he had a false start penalty, failed to secure a ball before landing out of bounds, and seemed to nearly seriously injure a teammate that he ran into on a punt. He looked good on the end around, though.

Ugh, I really wanted Rogers, and that we didnt grab him with a depleated receiving corp is just salt on the wound.

I was all in for Rogers and Wheaton, too. Would mock at least one of em, usually both. Had Rogers in the 3rd.. good thing I'm not a GM. Just thought the size and explosion were something the Pats were lacking.

Also really liked Maliciah Goodman and Kawann Short. Any word?

I think Walt Whitman summed it up best (with apologies to Whitman):

There was a fan who watched every game,
And the first player he chanced upon, that player a binky became.

Kawaan Short was the DT that I wanted, if we took one; but DT was not this year's huge priority.

It should have been our next priority after WR. I think the dropoff of 1st round DT talent to 2nd and later DT talent was too big to justify taking one in the 2nd when there was so much value to be had at other positions.

Quinton Patton looked good in his first action with San Fran. And while I hope Boyce turns into something for us I can't help but feel Patton is going to have a very good career.

I feel the same way unfortunately And what a golden path to kick start his career. Crabtree lost for the season, Manningham injured.

Where have we heard something similar? :confused2:

Cooper Taylor just let Tebow score a TD. That's not a good sign for his future

I don't often have a draft binkie, but I have had the last two years. T.Y. Hilton is doing pretty well and so is (*gulp*) Joseph Fauria. 3 TDs for a rookie UDFA -- that's crazy!

Marcus Cooper.......

How did we miss the best Rutgers secondary player?
