Since we only have 1 good receiver now in Branch, maybe we could move Watson out to WR or have him play off the line as a TE/WR then draft 6'8" Pope in the first?

he'll have stamina issues, hed have to shed punds, it might not work out, too many negatives,

Paul Perillio explained it perfectly, watson doesnt run routes wel enough and its harder to beat a cb then a LB

Bingo...this has eben talked about MANY threads now..and..you got it PP said it best..TEs can not run routes as well and have trouble with faster CBs...it's NOT just about speed..there are other things WRs need.

Well speed is not a problem for Watson. That kid has some wheels.

As a Wide Receiver, Ben Watson makes a very good Tight End. Non starter of an idea here.

stamina issues? ya i am sure champ bailey would say the same thing.

If we draft another TE in the first round, or in the first day for that matter I'm gonna need a new computer and a new TV. Somebody please take the TE evaluation list from BB and Pioli. When it comes to the draft and TE I just don't trust them to be able to control their fetish.
Cross your fingers that no good DT fall all the way to 21.

OMG I just had an ORGASM!!!

Pope is a beast! I've watched him for a couple of years down here. He has been much more impressive at Georgia than Watson was. Then again Patrick Pass was a back-up at UGA. Pope has tremendous height and size, he can block and is very athletic. He is a great Coateslike target in the endzone. Plus the Pats have had tremendous sucess in drafting Dawgs! I was all for drafting Odell Thruman last year, and he had a great year. SO look for Greg Blue on the second day, a hard hitting safety from UGA, he can bring it.

I suggest that you place your order for a new TV. We are almost a lock to pick a TE on Day One. It is a great day to draft tight ends, and Graham is a free agent after this year. bb has made it clear that we need three that can start if needed.

I've been pushing for this idea since January. In Watson, you have somebody with the size, speed and hands to be a WR. His route running needs work, but we have the coaching staff to make it work.

Lets look at it this way. Our defense is designed around players who are playing outside of their natural position, Seymour, Wilson, all of the linebackers. Why can't this work on offense? Watson obviously have the measurables to be a top receiver, and we already have the game's best blocking tight end...

Put it all together, and I think that might be the plan.

Both Watson and Graham ran routes while split wide, in certain roles and situations they will work out. Still, they usually attracted LBs and Ss and wouldn't do as well if the CBs drew that assignment.
