re: Haynesworth sentencing & league response (merged)

This also happened during the lockout and the league has yet to say whether they will be punishing players who got in trouble during the lockout.

it is possible that since the event occurred during the lockout, that he will not be suspended. I mean the guy was locked out, so his actions during that time need not be accounted for.

"Haynesworth is not expected to be disciplined by commissioner Roger Goodell, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter"

re: Haynesworth sentencing & league response (merged)

What do you guys make of the ESPN Bottom Line reporting that Goodell won't issue a punishment on Haynesworth?

This is what I was talking about earlier - the plea deal wasn't done in a vacuum, but had to be coordinated with the NFLPA, the Patriots, and the NFL, and of course the prosecutor and victim.

I sure hope you are not, and never are, in a position of authority on anything.
I am, and if one of my employees ever sexually assaulted someone, I'd fire them (and HR would support me), without any regard for how the criminal case turned out, if our internal company investigation sustained the charges.

re: Haynesworth sentencing & league response (merged)

A 1-2 week suspension would be in line with what others have been disciplined for similar offenses (I think it's stupid, since non-football stuff should be left to the legal system, but Goodell obviously disagrees). I kinda expect a 4 game suspension, which would be overkill, but still not the worst thing in the world. Our DL is deep enough that we should be able to do okay without him. As long as he's back for the Jets game...

What evidence would your internal company investigation have access to that a federal court wouldn't?

Haynesworth pleads no contest to simple assault - Extra Points - Boston.com

"If Haynesworth stays out of trouble for 18 months, the prosecution will then move to dismiss the case and the simple assault charge. As part of a deferred sentencing arrangement, the recently acquired Patriot must perform 160 hours of community service and undergo counseling if directed after an alcohol abuse assessment and a psycho-social assessment.

Additionally, Haynesworth cannot violate any law, be rearrested on probable cause, or violate any court order. If he is rearrested, he must report that to the court."

This can only be good for the Patriots.

At the end of the day, this punk gets what he deserves.

Will you boo when he sacks Manning to win the game?

Well we know we will see Eli...not so sure Peyton

We haven't seen little Eli since the Super Bowl. Time for some payback!

re: Haynesworth sentencing & league response (merged)

I updated my post to reflect that, either way he was found guilty. And to me, no contest is a guilty plea with out having to man up and admit you are guilty.

It still doesn't change the fact that the prosecutor never charged Ben with anything, not even simple assault. To most observers who followed the case, it was obvious a back room deal was made with the family, why else would they all run to the Prosecutor's office and beg him not to file charges? My guess is Ben's bank account had a significant debit that day. But still Al was charged and Ben was not. And he still has to deal with the road rage incident.

Mac, just based on the police reports that were made public, there is little question that if the victim had not been intimidated into not cooperating with the prosecution. If she had, Big Ben would have done serious time. I know it, you know it, Goodell knows it, and Ben knows it....and that's why he didn't fight the suspension.

This case is entirely different. IF he actually did it....and that's in question. The most Albert is guilty on is obnoxious inappropriate conduct. Something that most of the men here are guilty of at some time in our unenlightened youth...... and are appropriately ashamed of.

IF he did it, and I repeat IF, then he was appropriately punished by the court. And if this is the money grab I think it is, then some lawyer is going to make him play more. I'd be comfortable with a 2 game suspension and a fine.

But IF hit happened Albert is guilty of copping a feel. Braylon Edwards was guilty of irresponsibly driving a deadly weapon and he didn't miss a game. it will be interesting to see what the Jets office boy does

Just because a woman dresses provocatively doesn't give a thug a reason to use the middle area between her breasts or even her ass crack as a credit card swiping machine.

I think Goodell suspends him for two games. One for doing that, plus another for trying to motorboat the ATM machine. Rookie mistake.

re: Haynesworth sentencing & league response (merged)

The ESPN ticker- According to McShay he does not believe any suspension will happen. I hope he is right.

re: Haynesworth sentencing & league response (merged)

some of you self-righteous blame Haynesworth guys ('i would fire him') need to chill and look at the facts.

1. so long the prosecutor was charging him with 'sexual assault' he denied it an fought it.

2 What he plead no contest to was SIMPLE ASSAULT. Which if you understand the definition - DOES NOT EVEN IMPLY CONTACT WITH THE VICTIM!!! He was NEVER charged with battery and the final legal sheet says nothing about it being of a sexual nature.

assault is a crime of violence against another person. ... assault refers to an act that causes another to apprehend an immediate harmful contact, whereas the actual contact itself is called "battery.

not saying he is an angel; but if he really was out there massaging women's breasts without being asked - I don't think this goes to simple assault.

great news

I too enjoy it when someone molests someone else and suffers minimal consequences because they play for my football team.

Lets be honest here...
if he were a Jet you would want him hung by his balls or castrated.

Sometimes Hyprocrisy runs wild at Patsfans.com

The guy has been a thug and a pervert and wearing the uniform of the Patriots does not promote him to Boy Scout.

He isn't here to become the Pope and noone will confuse Albert Haynesworth with Mother Theresa

He is here with his pervertion and thugness on hand to help us win games,....nothing more, nothing less.

Did the victim allege she was 'molested?' That's a strong term that I've never seen used to describe what AH pled no contest to.

I'm not condoning his behavior, but as a fan, I'm happy to see the Pats get the right end of the disciplinary stick.

Are you saying he's factually innocent?

The only person who's factually saying anything, one way or the other, is you. Since apparently you saw it happen. At least I assume you did- otherwise it would be awfully ignorant of you to speak with such certainty about something that you have no knowledge of.
