Have Patience With Incoming Veterans

And which of these did Belichick cut in the preseason without them being injured?

Thats my point. That him not cutting guys isn't a sign that we should be patient.

Alex Smith & Derrick Burgess were not only not productive last night, they were putrid.

Smith has already proven me right, that Bill made a wrong decision to trade a 5th-rounder next year for him.

And if Burgess doesn't show something - anything - vs. the WreckSkins, then I fear that Bill has made yet another bad trade for a declining, underproductive vet.

Well, the 5th rounder for Smith I couldn't care less about. Your average NFL 5th rounder doesn't make it through his first preseason. Burgess, they gave up real picks.

Give me a freakin' break, Captain Hyperbole.

He also brought in Chad Scott, Dwayne Starks, Monty Biesel, Fernando Bryant, Deltha Oneil, and a handful of other terrible players over the last couple of years to "win championships"

Chad Scott was not a terrible player.

We disagree then. I think he was worse than Eric Alexander, who everyone here does a whole lot of *****ing about.

Actually, Scott was a quite serviceable dime back who often got matched against taller receivers.

The only downside was his inability to stay healthy.

Belichick brought these guys in because he expects them to contribute to playoff wins and a Super Bowl. Their acquisition is not about winning preseason games or even the extra early season game. While I understand that one of these could be cut, I think Hanson was the expection. Belichick will have patience with his choices unless they show no hope in practices. Gaffney took more than half a season before he was productive.

These players do NOT need to be productive for GAME ONE to be solid acquisitions.

WALTER
TAYLOR
GALLOWAY
SMITH (I expect Watson or Thomas to be traded)
BURGESS
LENON

Belichick brought them in, based on what he saw at the time as needs on the team and projections about what these vets could do. In some cases, things have changed.

Taylor has earned a spot.

I think that's a I expect Walter, Galloway, and Lewis to be around. Those are comlicated positions in the Pats scheme with a steep learning curve. I expect better things next week out of Galloway, and I'm willing to wait if not. Lewis is doing well on STs and had a couple nice plays on offense, so he's not going anywhere. Hopefully, Walter will get some snaps now that he's had time to study the playbook, and even if he doesn't look sharp, will be given more than the pre-season to get up to speed, I expect.

Burgess had an off night, it seems. He's not going anywhere, though. Another late addition who will be given time to allow his skills to shine.

Smith looks lost - not blocking well and not making plays as a receiver. If Watson comes back at full speed, I think Thomas's development as a blocker will spell the end for Smith. Baker is showing enough as a receiver that they can afford to let Smith go. Hopefully, Thomas doesn't get hurt again.

Lenon won't make the team from the tub. If he doesn't get on the field, they'd be cutting one of the ST studs to give him a roster spot. He's supposed to be pretty good on STs, but he hasn't shown anything as a LB here or in Detroit to give himself a spot. If I had to guess, I'd guess he's not here in September. Hopefully, he'll get on the field and prove me wrong.

Then I'm thinking about someone else. A non-Monty-Biesel terrible linebacker.
