Because he probably didn't know if he had options. Obviously, loyalty played a role in swaying him, but it probably wasn't his primary role -- ie if Dallas wasn't in the picture, then he'd take the Pats cuz the Pats were the only winning team; or if the Pats offered twice as much as Dallas.

Considering all the prominent athletes from the Boston teams who've fled straight to New York (or other division rivals) over the years, and how we as fans have subsequently felt about them, this is obviously nice to hear.

It's good to see an athlete who takes the feelings of fans who have supported him for years into consideration. Call him the anti-Clemens.
