Gronkowski is the best ever

As we've seen in MVP and Coach of the Year voting, people prefer the flavor of the day over consistent greatness when it comes to these sorts of things. In 2011-2012, it was Jimmy Graham, then it was Greg Olsen, then it was Tyler Eifert in 2015, and now Kelce is the new flavor of the day. Don't get me wrong, those other guys are terrific players, but they aren't tight ends and won't ever be.

Fixed it for you.

The only thing that's preventing him from being named GOAT TE is that he doesn't have the volume. But if you ask any coach from any era to name the ideal TE he'd like to have on his roster, they will all answer Gronk.

Personally I think longevity/volume stats factor into GOAT discussions.

If they didn’t then I think Randy Moss would have a lot more shouts for GOAT as a receiver over Jerry Rice.

That said I don’t think you would necessarily have to be no1 in the stats dept but you would have to be reasonably close.

Another couple of healthy years and I would say Gronk will seal that deal. As it stands at present he’ll just have to be described as the most talented (by a good stretch) TE ever to play.

His blocking is as has been said ridiculously undervalued by a large proportion of people outside of NE

I think if Gronk purely focused on it, he could be a pro-bowl LT.

The issue is longevity, as Gonzalez and others played at a high level well into their 30s and Gronk has injury problems.
I made a lot of player predictions in the preseason and they were mostly correct. But one I was completely wrong on was Gronk.

Gronkowski's performance this year, in the face of all his back operations, is extraordinary. Anyone I've known, after three back operations, if they can walk without too much pain, the operation is a success. Frankly if they can walk at all and even sleep without pain, that's a great result. How can you play tight end with all that going on in your back??

That's why I'm still flabbergasted he does what he does. And that touchdown catch the other day, wow.

So it's not just his play, it's his story, which is epic and remarkable.

Tight end blocking is severely undervalued by fans in NE as well.

Been saying it since 2014 . . .
