Great article from Mike Reiss detailing the timeline of the fall

Yeah, he's managing the cap the way he did for 20 years with TB but without TB here it doesn't work. He needs to get a bit more creative if he stays.
Exactly correct. You don't see HCs given dual roles in the NFL. Becuase owners want coaches to coach and be the best they can at it while the front office folks sign the players.

The decline in drafting is what is most apparent and why we are here. In the NFL you build through the draft.

Our second dynasty was built on great drafts in 2010-2013. But as those guys aged out bill whiffed so bad in the drafts he never found adequate replacements. Or just never was able to develop them.

It's why in 2019 Brady is throwing to Ben Watson/sanu with NewHouse as his tackle. We used to take for granted going from woodhead to vereen to white. Or from welker to Edelman.

And unfortunately since then it hasn't gotten better only worse. The drafts since our supposed "reset year" are mostly looking like busts

Don't forget dion Lewis as he was phenomenal for us. Yeah the 2017 and on drafts be Duke Dawson, Cyrus Jones, to name a few. These guys aren't even in the league anymore.

Every team of course has guys that don't pan out at the NFL level. Our misses are so egregious and another thing that also was head scratching is taking players with injury history.. Malcolm Mitchell for example was great for us for a short while but we drafted him injured and you don't get healthier as your career goes along.

He never made them an offer that's the problem. It's not like he went to them and they rejected an offer. Or are we supposed to not trust the beat media guys?

This is Bills MO. He did it with McCourty, Hightower as well. Only difference is those were Superbowl teams. This is a 3-10 team. If he doesn't offer them the most...they are gone.

When is the last time Bill has given a good player a 2nd contract? Just so you know Stevenson is probably gone too when his contract is up.
Not trust the guys who will make anything up and sell their grandmothers to get more clicks on it?

They have no more knowledge than we do about whether offers were made, let alone what any offers might have been.

Here‘s a question for you: if Bill calls Dugger’s agent and says “we’d like to extend Kyle’s contract” and the agent answers “we’re not interested in an extension” was an offer made?

Even guys Belichick wanted to keep, he let go to free agency like McCourty and Edelman. He ended paying McCourty top dollar after he was courted by several teams.

The simple fact is if other teams did what the Patriots did under Belichick, the Pats could build a strong Super Bowl contender this upcoming offseason. They are flushed with cap space the next few years and if no other team signed their players before they hit free agency or just before, the Pats have the flexibility to jam pack the roster with talent. But unfortunately, most other teams do try to give the players they want to keep an extension a year or two before they can hit free agency. Not every player will do that, but a lot will.

The thing is Belichick rarely does it unless he can get an absolute bargain for player who likely won't have a strong free agent market anyway like Parker this year or Gachauex last year.
