I'm of the opinion that the Rookie might very well end up accomplishing more than AV has or will accomplish; but I'm also of the opinion that we shouldn't of had to find out.
Its not like AV died or retired. He wanted more than he was worth, but he was a kicker which means overpaying him was still cheap when you think of the confidence he brought to everyone else. If overpaying him led to higher demands from other players, the team could have responded by saying:
"Are you the greatest DB, WR, ILB, DE (etc) in the history of the NFL? You agree you're not? Good then you should understand why we're overpaying the greatest clutch kicker in NFL history and why we can't do the same for you."
The Pats were penny-wise but pound-foolish when it comes to him and now we may very well be screwed.
