Uhh, yea, it's really not though.This is a slippy slope I don't want to go too far down. I don't think people should type stupid things like this online but not every threatening statement should be treated the same.
In the heat of the moment people say dumb crap. I don't want to make that something you go to a tiny cell surrounded by rapist and murders for.
We should understand the difference between posting something like a hate manifesto on a racist site and threatening to carry out an attack vs being a sports fan and threatening to kill fans of other teams cause a trade or signing happens.
It's not always hard to know the credible threats we should devote resources to.
Don't threaten to commit a mass shooting, like ever, for any reason.
It's super simple and stable, not slippery at all IMO.
It's not about establishing credibility in the threat, it's about holding citizens accountable for their words and actions. What this man did was stupid, selfish and dangerous, "joke" or not and he should be made an example of.
