Back in the 90s on USENET I was not especially polite but not abusive either. Yes, a wiseass. Mostly Jets & Buffalo AFCE trash talk. Anyway some poster took serious exception to my posting existance. He somehow researched me, found out where I worked, the name of my boss and company CEO. Threatened to show up at noon someday and give me the beating I deserved. In engineering, I'd occasionally play hoops outside at noon vs manufacturing. I maintained situational awareness of anyone approaching the court during games for a few weeks. Back then, the thought of being shot never occurred to me.

Wondering who that was… doesn't sound like something Rubenstein or Jackass Jensen would have done.... they were harmless fun.... but ya some people took it way too seriously.....
