How the heck did Borges end up with a vote here?

My guess is that he's on the Pats HoF committee because for some utterly inexplicable reason he is the person the Pro Football HoF has designated to present Patriots players before the PFHoF nominating committee.

Good question. The Pats Hall of Fame committee was formed in 1991 after John Hannah was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and back then Borges was held in much higher regard than he is now. He was allegedly getting all his inside information from Drew Bledsoe, and he didn't turn into the single-minded bitter writer that he is now until several years later, when Belichick chose Brady over Bledsoe in 2001, and then traded Drew away the following spring - which cut off his source for much of his material.

Apparently once you are on either committe (Pro Football HoF or Pats HoF) you can stay there for as long as you so desire, so Borges will probably remain in both positions until the day he dies.

On a side note it is typically the member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame that covers a team that nominates a person from that team, and makes his case to the rest of the committee. Not that we will ever find out, but I would be very curious to find out what Borges would have to say about either Belichick when the time comes for his nomination. I also wonder if it was he, or someone else that nominated Robert Kraft this past year.
