What a waste of $$$$$. Please tag him.

NGL I was kinda hmmm, then I looked up the projected TE tag value for 2026 and it's $14-15M. Even after they get some relief from releasing Cousins tagging Pitts would cost them @ half of the @ $30M they're projected to have in cap space. For a 750-850 yd guy, just not worth that % of their available cap for a TE with a career 63% catch rate when they've got too many other needs.

And he doesn't block and is almost useless in the red zone. If we were talking about Trey McBride I would be fine with it, but a guy who has never fulfilled his promise is someone to stay away from. I think people hear " Kyle Pitts" and think we are talking about the guy who was projected to be a superstar when he was drafted, but the guy who has been marginal at best throughout his career. And as usual the Cult of Verticality is tooting their horns about him, but run away when you ask them to back up their desires.

I agree, guys like Spillane are great signings that fly under the radar.
I don’t think they’re going to go in for big signings, but will scour the league for the role players and depth that will make the team stronger. And maybe go for a home run with the draft picks instead.

It depends on what a team is looking for.
There are players with warts (WanDale Robinson, George Pickens, Kyle Pitts, Breece Hall) and there are some above average to good Vets (Evan Neal, Tyler Lindebaum, Connor McGovern, David Edwards) There will be other players released between now and then as well.

I'd rather the Pats spending on their own moreso than breaking the bank they way they had to with Williams. It sends the message that the team wants them here.
I agree. They scored well in both the draft and free agency last off season. This upcoming off season they need to transition to keeping their own free agents instead of attracting outsiders. They also need to be planning ahead, continuing to build through the draft. In the next two years there will be three OL positions opening up. We may have one or two of those replacements already in house but upgrading the OL is always a priority so we should be drafting developmental linemen every year. I don’t think signing FA OL is a good idea as a consistent strategy, just because there aren’t enough of them to go around so it’s a thin and expensive market.

Not that it’s likely or that I’ve heard anything regarding this, but just a hypothetical. Let’s say Bobby Wagner is released because the Redskins suck & able to sign with a contender; would you want to sign him for the remainder of the season/playoff run? He’s 35, but still playing at a decently high level, has been a top 1-5 LB since his arrival & has championship pedigree. Mind you, that defense is horrific, but Wagner has 130 tackles, 2 INTs & 3 sacks. He’s obviously not as quick as he used to be, but his knowledge and savvi alone would augment the alignments/communication/performance of our defense. Wagner, Spillane, Tavai, Ellis, Gibbens would be sweet.

If Landry continues to suffer lingering injury issues, sure. Wagner would be an upgrade over an injured Landry. If Landry were fully healthy not sure that’s still true, but Landry isn’t likely to be fully healthy this season.

Are you insinuating playing Wagner as an edge rusher? He’s always been an ILB/MLB…He’d replace someone like Ellis or Tavai..

I’ve always thought Wagner played more like a safety. If he replaced Elliss in the middle maybe Christian’s speed would be productive on the edge?
