Right now Kenyon Sadiq is the highest rated TE in the coming draft, however I think his height , 6'2 could lead to him falling down draft boards, and into range for the Patriots to pick. Much as I hate to use this comparison he could end up being an Aaron Hernandez type/ H-Back TE in the pro's. But he's a playmakers with excellent character, as willing blocker, and he could fit right in with this team. This first round is not strong and they could come away with the best TE if he falls to them.

I prefer a drafted TE, not a FA. I suppose we could have both if Hooper walks. I think we need to get younger at the position.
We have a lot of cap space, so obv we will use both the draft and FA, and we really need to add pass rush.
With all our picks, and FA$, we really should be in a good position to draft best available.
If that was Sadiq, I would have no problems with it.

If he's still there when the Patriots are drafting, they'd be crazy not to take him, unless for whatever reason a top tackle drops as well.

Yep, i would prefer a drafted TE over a free agent TE. I want them to go interior OL in both the draft and free agency.

I recognize the need at TE but I'm sort of with @TommyD4207 in terms of the need to prioritize them. O-line, edge. LB and Safety would all seem to be higher priorities. That said, as far down as the Pats are going to be drafting when they get a chance at a great prospect that matches a positional need they have to strongly consider it. I do think this organization is one we can have faith in when it comes to weighing all factors before pulling the trigger and man doesn't it feel great to be able to say that

I wasn't looking at the pick in terms of priorities, I was looking at in terms of value. When you look at the projections of the 26' Draft you will see that OL, WR, Edge will most likely be cleaned out by the time the Patriots pick. So you end up in a situation where you can take the 6th best Edge, OT, or WR, or you can take the top rated TE or IOL. I believe more in best player available than I do picking for need, with a couple of exceptions, so I lean towards taking the best TE prospect over taking the 5th or 6th best Edge, WR or OT.

I think you misread Tommy, as he was in favor of taking Sadiq.

I agree OL and Edge are the biggest needs, but as you referenced, where we will be picking we really should be focused on best available outside of QB. We did a good job in FA last offseason allowing us to not have to draft for need, and I expect the same next offseason.
If a TE was the overwhelming best player at 32 (see what I did there ), I would certainly hope, and think we would take him.

Another position where there could be great value for them in the 1st round is linebacker. both Styles and Hill could end up on the board for them

Tommy mentioned IOL as well, kind of where I was going with that. Overall though I'm not in disagreement with you, I'm just priororitizing different positions over TE. I think OL and LB are greater areas of need and there could still be worthy talent there. If the Pats brain trust thinks a TE represents the better value and Sadiq is there, he'd certainly a great selection. I doubt he drops that far though

Only thing that would have been better was if he retired at halftime like that other guy.

He probably would have been their starter this week. Wild.
