Why do you like Ugoh? I asked you this before, but I don't think you ever answered. He's a head case, and has commitment problems. I'm not sure if I would use a first round pick on someone who doesn't always give their full effort on the field.

I am unaware of these warts you speak of. Watching Ugoh on the field, he seemed to move his feet really well, use his hands really well, and although I didn't see more than 3 or 4 games, I don't recall him getting beat. He seems to have the mobility to get to the second level, which Belichick seems to put a premium on. Wasn't he a captain on the team? It's hard to imagine someone with those issues being named a captain.

If you have some knowlege of him being lazy or a head case, please share them and I will reconsider. As for now, I prefer Ugoh's past production over Staley's potential. I wouldn't actively try to draft him, but I would take him in the first round over Moss or Weddle.

"There's also concern that he doesn't show a great love for the game of football and needs a fire lit under him in order to get full effort."
"Shows quickness in the short-area but lacks ideal foot speed and will
"He is still a bit raw and will not get away with sub-par footwork in the NFL, like he did in college."
"comes with a reputation of lacking passion for the game of football."
"he is a bit of a boom-or-bust prospect in our opinion"
NFLDraftCountdown:
"A bit of an underachiever who doesn't always play up to his physical tools...Is he devoted to and truly love the game?"
DraftStock:
"Biggest problems I had with Ugoh and why I have him ranked lower than most is his conditioning and upper body strength. He did do 32 reps at 225 at the combine but it doesn’t look like that sheer strength transfers to the football field. Also seems to get winded very easily, especially for a player as athletic as he is. Conditioning will have to improve at the next level which means he is probably doing the right thing by keeping his weight down around 300 pounds."
Sports XChange:
"Showed more desire in his play as a senior, but preferred to compete in track rather than football most of his career (only spring ball he attended at Arkansas was in 2006)"
"Needs to play with more aggression and seems to go through the motions at times"
"Not a hard worker in the offseason and needs hard coaching to produce … Lacks aggression in his play and will give up on plays when beaten rather than try to stick with the action."

Also, everything I've been reading about this guy makes him sound like more of a Guard than a legit pro OT.

I don't see anything necessarily fatal in those evaluations. Lack of aggression is a common negative for draft gurus when they need to list strength and weaknesses. I remember it notably came up with Damien Woody, Alex Barron, and even with D'Brick and Lutui last year.

Sure, I'd like to see a bit more aggressiveness, but it shouldn't be a big hangup. Our current tackles seem to have a lack of it also.

Just for some kind words, from two sites I like regarding offensive linemen:

Northwest Scouting:
Very athletic and agile run blocker. Very solid drive blocker. Possesses good upper body strength and can control defender once he locks on. He has very solid footwork and lateral mobility and sets up in pass protection quickly. Ugoh takes good angles to blocks, gets good position and will fight to maintain position and contact. Can get to second level and hit moving targets. Will occasionally expose his chest to defender. Slow to adjust to countermoves. Can be beat by speed. Doesn’t get much movement in the run game. Thinks he’s stronger than he really is. Has a lot of natural talent and gives a good effort, but he might have to crank up the intensity at the next level. Technique needs some work. Has frame for additional 10-15 lbs. Over-rated by those insisting on placing him among the top 32... but Left Tackle prospects don’t grow on trees. Might be best suited to a zone blocking scheme.

On The Clock Draft:
Tony Ugoh has a good deal of experience against top competition, having started the past three seasons at left tackle for Arkansas in the SEC. He has a good combination of size, strength and athleticism for a tackle. He has long arms which allow him to keep defenders away from his body in pass protection. He is an outstanding run blocker who can get to the second level and take out a linebacker. His strong upper body makes it difficult for defenders to get by him once he gets his hands on them. Tony lacks the “mean streak” you like to see in an offensive lineman and he needs to work on finishing his blocks. He also needs to do a better job of displaying good technique on a more consistent basis. He has problems with his footwork at times, making him susceptible to speed rushers coming off the edge. The good thing is all of his shortcomings can be solved with good coaching. Tony would benefit from bulking up and increasing his lower body strength and he does have the frame in which to do so. Tony Ugoh has the potential to develop into a very good offensive tackle at the next level. He may need to start out on the right side early on in his career before moving to left tackle. He has been moving up draft boards with a good senior season and a solid performance at the Senior Bowl.

Like I said, not my ideal draftee, but I'd be happier with him than Moss or Weddle in the first round.
