NFL Rumors: Patriots Add Former O-Lineman To Coaching Staff

Former New England Patriots offensive lineman Billy Yates reportedly has been working with Bill Belichick's staff as an assistant coach.

A lot of new coaches.

They had two straight years where a major coach left in Flores and then Judge. And both took people with them.. They also lost Fisch to AZ where he'll be joined by Bruschi.

We know that Patricia was brought back, but that he won't be a coach. Hardegree is supposedly taking over for Fisch. We don't know where Yates or Rothstein are going to be assigned.

Not really a criticism. It should be a good development. Pats have a pretty lean coaching staff.

Rothstein and now Yates join the staff replacing no one in particular . Both worked for Patricia in Detroit. I can’t remember Josh McDaniels bringing coaches with him when he returned nor did Mike Lombardi bring people from Cleveland with him.

Perhaps, the rumor of a couple of weeks ago that Bill’s moving upstairs after this season with Patricia succeeding him might actually be more than a rumor?

Rumors that aren’t true have to be made up by someone. Usually, the false rumor is made to be as believable as possible, so it’s believed or at least taken seriously.

If you were making up a rumor about Belichick stepping aside after this season, why would you include that Patricia fresh off his disgrace in Detroit would be replacing him on the sidelines. Wouldn’t the “lie” be more believable if it was Josh or even Stephen replacing Bill?

Patricia employed six of his former Patriots players as coaches in Detroit. With Leon Washington joining the Jets last week and now Yates to the Patriots, that leaves Steve Gregory, Tyrone McKenzie, Ty Warren, and Tony Carter currently unemployed. Warren and Carter were just coaching assistants, but Gregory was DB coach last season and McKenzie was Vrabel's ILB coach for two years and Patricia's LB coach last year.
