More Patriots porn that wets our appetite for the upcoming season... this series is very well done.
My guess is that Maye, Spillane, Hollins and possibly Diggs are locks for captains as their leadership skills were obvious.

Probably Moses too.

My sleeper pick for the secondary is Marcus. Not sure you can go with Gonzo yet plus he's hurt anyway. Marcus is my binky so I'm biased but he's been here a few years now and unless Davis earned it I think Marcus makes some sense.

These first two games DJ James, Marcus and Austin will have to be ready. I like the Marcus on hill match up week 2 at Miami. Yeah gonzo ain't playing no time soon.. wich is fine.. we need him long term of course. Davis and Austin outside and Marcus in the slot is the best matchups for us. Woodson on Bowers?

That’s pretty much exactly how he was advertised by Houston (their WRs attributed much of their success to Diggs being there to help coach them up) but for whatever reason people/the media overlook that and instead just focus on the one time he yelled at Josh Allen in Buffalo, or when he had an ego in Minnesota forever ago.
I think Diggs gets close to the edge when the ball doesn't come his way, when it should. if he is open, get him the ball. feed him 100 times (attempts) this season.

If a guy like Diggs is getting routinely open and not being thrown the ball at all then we will have bigger problems

I think they will. Henderson opens up play action for everyone. Diggs will get teams best CB each week. The higher volume guy though will be pop.

What’s striking to me is the difference in coaching emphasis between Vrabel and Belichick. Whereas Belichick focused almost exclusively on execution and situational football-“ do your job,” Vrabel seems to emphasize team and the “ culture of violence” first and foremost. I realize that this episode was about culture, and that it may have been emphasized more, but that theme has been evident from Vrabel’s first day on the job. And I’m sure Belichick talked about team and Vrabel does plenty of situational football in practice, but to me Belichick’s focus was more on individual players executing their responsibility, whereas Vrabel’s is more on them fighting together as a team to get the job done. Either way it was a fun episode to watch, and I loved the focus on Efton Chism III, and how he earned his place on the team. He’s a baller, and he’s really going to help Maye and this team. I also love the emphasis on violence. In football you have to win the fistfight to be able to execute properly, and that’s why running the ball effectively is so critical to the success of a team like the Patriots, as you are dishing out the hits and wearing the opponent down on every running play, as opposed to absorbing them in pass protection.

Good points. It makes me think of a player who would "freelance" at times like Jamie Collins. How would Vrabel receive that? Would he be willing to forgive it if the choice the player made was for the benefit of the football team?

That’s interesting. A strategist vs a tactician, maybe.

Interesting question. I think he would be more forgiving than Belichick as long as the player could justify his decision.

I don’t know if there’s ever been a defensive strategist better than Belichick, Honestly I’m not sure how to describe other than more of a focus on team identity over individual execution.

the emphasis on Chism is interesting. does the team dress 5 or 6 game 1? if 4, who sits? Boutte? Chism? WIlliams? Hollins?
seems Diggs and Pop are for certain, no?

Henderson will do kicks and Marcus should be on punts so probably not going 6 WR possibly even just 4. I would say Diggs, Pop, Boutte, and Hollins are first up.

If because Gonzo is out they go with another PRer then they probably use Chiz and then it's at least 5. I think they stick with Marcus though.

Chism plays on both offensive and defensive teams special teams, so I expect him to dress most if not every week.

Another well done episode.

I do understand this is a process and must be allowed to grow
Saying that I am thrilled with the energy and direction of this program
We have not had an identity in 4 years.
I love the identity that Vrabel is selling.
Hard work, grit and accountability to the team
I was impressed with McDaniels film breakdown meetings. Marrone and the rest of the staff seem very professional and experienced and I do believe giving time the Offense will start to gel.
