On the Patriots' Fifth Quarter, Felger said the Chargers are like a school yard bully. They talk tough and trash talk when they pick on a lesser opponent or before they play someone, but when they face a better team they lack the stones to fight back and retreat like little school girls. Rivers and LT just folded in the face of pressure last night.

True. Gates is the only guy who showed up last night, and that was only because Rivers kept completing these ridiculous jumpshot lollipop throws on 3rd down. When that's your sole weapon, you're in trouble.

I was honestly getting worried when I saw those string of third and long completions. Rivers did very well enough under the pressure to make those throws and Gates did an awesome job of bringing them in. With LT getting sidelined, this is obviously their second weapon. IMO, if they had had a little more of maturity and experience, they could have used it to bounce back.

You're right. Until they develop some sort of receiving threat, the won't really be able to get the best out of LT and Gates against the better defences.

I wasn't. They were a little irritating but over the course of a game and a season if the Patriots defense forces enough third and longer than 4s, good things will usually happen for us. Maybe not THIS time but good things will happen.

furthermore, Gates was getting his 3rd down conversions in the 3rd quarter, at a point when the Patriots were up 24 points. The Patriots were laying back in a deeper zone to prevent anything going for 25 to 30 yards at a time (see the PI call against Hobbs with the help Sanders was giving for example). At that point in the game, I think the Pats were more than willing to trade 9 minutes off the clock for 7 points by the opposing team.

Reminded me of McNabb's hurry-up offense in XXXIX. I was thinking to myself, "Good, they're making 'em work for every single point."

please i beg you no felger threads

yea he was pissed......he wanted the pats to lose so bad! the chargers betrayed him

The best example of the heartlesssness, as I pointed out at the time, was the punt with about 3 minutes to go.

As for Gates -- the game is EASY to him. We don't know whether he has heart, because he doesn't need heart to excel. He's a lot like Moss in that regard, actually.
