Looking at this site, they'll now be at about $118 mil (slightly under). From everything I've read, the Jets are still $10M+ over the cap.
And, according to the Sporting News this morning, they'll be in hot pursuit of Baltimore's Bart Scott (LB) and Jim Leonhard (S) who are both FAs. How the hell do they do this every year and stay within the cap??Looking at this site, they'll now be at about $118 mil (slightly under).
New York Jets Salary Cap
So who will be the new most overrated, most overhyped player in the league?
how does Tannenbaum still have a job?
And that would differ from his last 75 seasons how?
For better or for worse, though, they're not getting Cassel.
The news of Favre retiring is so very disappointing.
I was really looking forward to him setting the NFL record for fumbles next season, to go along with the record for interceptions, during a game announced by John Madden.
So who will be the new most overrated, most overhyped player in the league?
polamalu ...
Aww, come on, Brett ole' buddy. This isn't the Brett Favre we all know and love! We're counting on you to drag this out in a frenzy of narcissism, causing off-season chaos for the Jets like you did so reliably for the Packers. Go out with guns blazing, you grizzled gunslinger!
So who will be the new most overrated, most overhyped player in the league?
Polamalu gets my vote.
The announcers trip over each other to wash his balls every time.
It's crazy.

It's official: Brett Favre files his retirement papers with NFL
BY Rich Cimini
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER
Wednesday, February 11th 2009
This time, Brett Favre appears to be dead serious about staying retired.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback has filed his official retirement papers with the league, a person familiar with the situation told the Daily News Wednesday. Favre didn't take that step last March when he retired from the Packers, fueling immediate speculation that he was having second thoughts.
As it turned out, those second thoughts became reality in June, when he announced his intentions to return to football. In August, he was traded to the Jets by the Packers.
For practical purposes, the primary reason for filing retirement papers is to receive a one-time severance pay. Some retired players wait years before finalizing the paperwork.
Symbolically, this means Favre really thinks he's done for good.
From the Jets' perspective, it means his $13 million salary comes off the books immediately - today
It's now believed the Jets are about $10 million below the salary cap, which goes into effect Feb. 27
Jets cut Barrett, now under cap
by Dave Hutchinson Wednesday February 11, 2009, 6:29 AM
The Jets yesterday announced the release of veteran cornerback David Barrett, a move that'll save the team $5.1 million on the salary cap.
The release of Barrett leaves the Jets roughly $4 million under the projected 2009 salary cap of $124 million, according to NFLPA cap figures. If quarterback Brett Favre retires or is released, the club will save another $13 million on the cap.
That would leave the Jets with at least $17 million heading into the start of free agency on Feb. 27. The club is expected to make other moves to free up more cap space before free agency begins.
Barrett, a nine-year veteran, played the past five seasons with the Jets after signing with the team as an unrestricted free agent following four seasons in Arizona. He started 37 of 69 games and had 247 tackles and 12 interceptions as a Jet.
Last season, he played in 11 games in a reserve role and was inactive for five games.
Take away that 6 TD game he had against the Cards and his 2008 numbers are even worse. Favre was a great player for a long time, but last year proved that he is truly done. That last game of the year against the Dolphins was so unbelievably terrible; it looked like he was throwing picks on purpose. It's time for him to go.
The interesting part of this is where the Jets go from here. Kellen Clemens is crap, so let's hope he starts next year. Regardless, the Jets are headed for one of those fun 4-12 type seasons.
