Well, first of all, I guess the guy had season tickets if he was sitting in the first row in the end zone and his face was visible all over national TV, so, practically speaking, he probably didn't have much of a choice other than to return the ball.

But "a signed jersey?" That's a little on the light side, I think. The Yankees donated $150,000 to the charity named by the fan who caught and surrendered A-Rod's 3,000th hit (a homer) plus tickets and a bunch of monetize-able Memorabilia.

3,000 hits only put A-Rod in the company of 30 other guys with as many or more, so the ball that put Brady #4 on the all time TD list...probably worth a bit more than a Jersey.

Having been to the Patriots HOF and seen all those historic Patriots footballs with the white athletic tape and Sharpie scrawls, I still have to wonder... why? Is there really that much difficulty in keeping track of the ball from the field to the HOF display? And why not pull the tape off before placing it in the display? You do know what that cloth tape is going to look like in a few years, don't you?

the can inject some sort of dna into it to keep track of which ball s which. that's how psa/dna does it. but the ball is probably in some sort of special casing so it (and the tape) won't deteriorate.

Isn't it obvious? The tape is strategically placed so no one can insert a gauge to measure the PSI of the ball and show that it was not properly inflated at the time of the play! Do I have to explain everything?
