Falcons C Alex Mack dealing with sprained ankle

No Offence but I stopped reading right there...I think it's clear Mingo isn't smart enough to grasp this Defense. Plus his basketball players frame is a liability against the Run. I can clearly see why he's a ST's only player.

Disagree. Telling a LB to blitz the A gap is like telling a WR to run a fly or go route.

This is definitely noteworthy, despite other claims to the contrary in this thread

Wait. People think an ankle sprain to a C like Mack who isn't practicing at all this week isn't noteworthy?

Oh wait that's right, this is PatsFans.

Absolutely laughable if they are sure this is a non-issue. Maybe it ends up not being one but if he has swelling and is taking off all week then there is no way someone can say it is a non-issue and not noteworthy.

Mack on a bum ankle is not gonna get anywhere close to the push he does when healthy against Branch.

Mack is a very good C. I don't think this injury will make him a liability.

Mack is dealing with a somewhat significant ankle & left fibula injury. This would be a significant blow to ATLs OFF communication as far as protections, blitz pick up, audible, etc.. Coach Quinn is "concerned" enough to be "concerned" about it. However, Mack is a pretty tough player.

Not to wish injury upon any player, but hopefully we can really take advantage of this.

Release the hounds!!!

I'm almost certain Mack will play and be close to his normal self. This is all noise.
Maybe it is maybe it isn't. But Giants fans could have down talked the Gronk ankle in 2011, that didn't mean it wasn't significant. Just like this could be however much Patriots fans say "it's noise".

He'll be alright Centers are naturally Tough and plus we have a vested interest in him for that 3rd Round compensation Pick from Cleveland.

How he does in the SB will have essentially zero impact on that pick.

He has a high ankle sprain. He'll play, but he won't be anywhere near 100%. He was limited in a walk through yesterday. This will cause them to regularly double team Branch which should open up opportunities for the rest of the Pats front.

Mack will tough it out and hold his spot. Lucky as Center you can still snap the ball and anchor on a bum leg. Where we will see this injury have more of an effect is on the RG. I believe Mack has tried his best to help out that weakness all year but if he can't be mobile then that puts that player on even more of an island.

Also this will effect the run game more than the pass game. Holding your spot on a bad ankle is one thing. Pushing off it is an entirely different animal.

He reportedly struggled pretty bad in practice. That's not something to dismiss. Remember how the entire NE offense could barely practice last year due to injury? How did that turn out?

I have no idea how severe his injury is or how limited he will be. Its been reported that hes been giving a crash course to backup Ben Garland all week on calls and such.

His injury and how it impacts the team has a few layers to it.

He is their best o-lineman. His brain alone makes Matty Ice's job and the rest of the line's job in pre-snap easier.

Post-snap is where the questions come.

Will he hold up against the raw power of 350lb of Alan Branch?

How will he deal with Flowers's quickness?

How will his mobility be on running plays?

I hear you. I just don't know how much I believe the reports. I guess I should have added that to my post. It's noise to me, Fourier.

I hear you, Kontra. I just don't buy some of the reports. That's just me, I guess.

I hear you. But I'm just skeptical about the reports. How many teams are we hearing about who are being investigated for NOT revealing injuries and here we are in the SB hearing this much about a key player? I just feel some of it is noise. I know Mack is hurt, I know Mack will play, and I think he'll play well... even if not 100%. We'll see, though, friend.

Their OL uses a ton of mobility when they're zone blocking. They kind of split between that and standard power blocking, it could hurt their wide, zone game.

That injury looked pretty bad, took him a while to get off the field. He came back on the next drive but maybe it just got worse down the stretch. He will play but probably won`t be able to move or wrestle around like he used to.
