I think they are totally different players. Perkins can't replace Ekuale.

Perkins is a JAG OLB/edge rusher. Ekuale is an interior DL. They play completely different positions, one has no impact on the other. Sam Roberts is the guy who will get more snaps now.

This. Roberts and Ekaule play the same role. Good opportunity for Roberts to show that he belongs in the game day rotation. He has looked very explosive at times but consistency may have been holding him back.
