I know that this will not be a popular question, but here goes: What if he didn't do it?

I'm so glad to see someone here remembers that little "innocent til proven guilty" detail.

Seriously that pic is nasty, he looks OUT of it, like a step or two away from comatose lol. I'd argue he may not have known what he was doing, period.

What if he was set up?

Hahahahaha, look at his eyes in the Globe mugshot.

If that's not someone rolling on a few PKs, a little weed and some drinks then my whole time spent at college must have been a sham.

Ugh, that is disappointing. I think he may get the boot soon.

He won't get cut because Myra is gone.

Are you kidding me? Two likely drunk people at 1:30am in a bar know that a third likely drunk person did it. This is slam dunk, open and shut case. It would be absurd to believe anyone would lie about something like this and try to take advantage of a celebrity for personal gain!

Fyi, if JE wasn't a New England Patriot, an arrest almost certainly would not have occurred (have you epeople never been to a bar party at 1:30am?? Ever??). People, some perspective. Drop the "virtue protector of all things womanhood" (vredit another poster for that line). This was a 1:30am party at a bar. Virtue is going to be as common as sobriety. IF this happened (and that is a HUGE, MASSIVELY UNCERTAIN IF) and IF the female in question called the police because this was a violation of her personal ethical/moral code to the level the legal system needs to be involved (and not because JE is a NEP), JE has a legal slap down coming. It would be justifiably so simply based on law. But now some are calling him a rapist? OMG, are you insane? Have you no sense of degree. JE will not do more than a night before arraignment. A hefty fine, community service is likely IF he was convicted (don't bet a dollar on it! And, again, this is based on the HUGE assumption it is true and goes to court). However, the court of public opinion (as evidenced by posters on this site), civil court (nooo! It's not possible it could all be for a pay day!), and the NEP front office is where JE is going to find the harsh punishment (and it will be harsh). JE better hope the story starts falling apart soon and others at the bar can start putting a different perspective to what happened.

Ugh. Sorry to make this thread that's already too long longer, but this drives me crazy. This "innocent until proven guilty" thing is more misused on the internet than any legal concept other than perhaps the "first amendment."

Nobody is really innocent until proven guilty. There actually is in this world such a thing as truth. The concept of "innocent until proven guilty" applies in only one place on the whole wide world (and it's not message boards) -- in courts. It is a legal fiction, created soley to ensure that one could not be sent to jail or face the other burdens of a criminal conviction until proven otherwise beyond a reasonable doubt.

But don't let the fact that there are thousands of lawyer shows on television confuse you. In the word outside of courtrooms, there is no such thing as "innocent until proven guilty." There is, in the non-legal or courtroom sense, only innocent or guilty. Edelman is one or the other. And that fact already exists regardless of what happens next. Don't let the moral relativity and legal fictions that civilized people use in courtrooms confuse you about what exists in the real world.

Now, one can say based on the facts they know or think they know that they don't believe Edelman committed a crime. Or, they can say they think he did. Or they can say they don't know enough to have an opinion. That's fine. But the question of what he did or didn't do actually is a question of fact, not of a fiction.

Suppose there were a law that said all women had to pay $100 more in taxes, but the law also said that you would be presumed to be a man, as a matter of law, unless proven otherwise with a chromosome test. Let's say a woman pretends she's a man for her whole life to pay less tax and never has the test. Is she actually a man? Nope. She was a woman who was, for one purpose, presumed to be a man.

What if he was set up?

A friend of mine said he was not guilty in court because he drunk too much and that didn't work.

Did anyone smell his hand .............

OJ Simpson got off on a murder charge but everyone knows he was involved in some way. Even if JE skates on this charge, some will always suspect that he did something. I know that I will.

Once you are charged with an offense, the onus is on you to prove that youre innocent.

Its more like guilty until proven innocent. Especially in todays society.

I know that this will not be a popular question, but here goes: What if he didn't do it?

This is why you, as a player on a pro sport teams, or as a celebrity, never go alone, when you go out.

I read the police report that was put up by WEEI, and it is very clear that he was there by himself in view of the fact that no witnesses were listed for the defendant (Edelman).

Out with my brother one night in Manhattan, a now well known TV personality who had a cable game show at the time, grabbed the breasts of my brother's friend's girlfriend. The boyfriend got in his face, celebrity had two big doofuses with him who tossed boyfriend on the ground, next thing I know I'm grabbed as I help my brother bring boyfriend to his feet, everyone ends up on the floor.

This has nothing to do with anything other than I'm annoyed every time I see that breast grabbing &*^% on TV. If it were your daughter...

On the flip side, I had a friend in college grab a girl's butt as I was standing behind her, as a joke on me. She thought I did it, she became infuriated at me (rightly so). No explanations sufficed (and there was no boyfriend around). I was just standing there a few minutes after the incident, when I saw my friend duck his head into the room (I was in of a big bar in Georgetown), and he was laughing at me. She saw it, realized what had happened, then dumped a beer on his head.

LOL. We did this all the time while we were out at clubs and bars when we were in college...:singing:

LOL.....another fricking missed tackle

Laughed at this, in spite of myself.

Seriously... this is troll-bait at its finest.
Blood in the water after a freshly-crooked nose.
Personally, I could give a flip. I want a team on the field more than a team that shoots rainbows out of their ahhrsess. To hell with the "we're a bunch of decent guys" BS. Pack that in, and let's kick some *****!

He'll get released and his contract voided for conduct unbecoming of a short, drunk and redundant third down back/kick returner. More touches for Kevin Faulk.

It opens a slot for a defensive back. I understand Brandon "The Party Starter" Merriweather is available.

Ironic - The Party Ender gets replaced by The Party Starter.

The complainant is listed. John P. Doris...with a Boston address

now for Zabasearch, folks....there's a John P. listed in Roslindale...47 years old...NO ONE listed by that name in Boston...SO...this John P. MUST be from another state...lets try a few...starting with NEW JERSEY....now think...Edelman is NOT grabbing a 47 year old's girlfriend...he's in his mid twenties...we can reasonably assume she is too along with John P., her "boyfriend...back to the search using between the ages of 21 and 30 as parameters...the phone # is listed.I'm going to call it up and ask Mr. Doris if this is his son...

9:45 P.M.
heh...well...look at this...there's a whole host of John P. Doris's from Bayonne to Washington Township and in between. Let's try NY and Conn for sh!ts and giggles...hmmm..plenty of John's but no middle initial and no specific age group for NY...in Conn there's a John P. who is listed as born in 1943...this would be a stretch to think this guy is John Jr......no, so far I'm really intrigued by the NJ hits for ol' John P....let's do the search nationwide just to be a little thorough....

11:00 PM...I left a message on Mr. Doris's answering machine earlier tonight...he just returned my call...heh...big Patriots fan...anyway, he told me he had received a number of calls this afternoon and evening asking for information. He says this is NOT his son, or nephew and he has no idea who/where THIS John P. Doris is but he hopes whoever it is is not lying about the incident...I certainly can sympathize with THAT.

I gotta tell you all...I smell a rat...a big, green RAT. I think this kid is from one of those listings in Jersey and I think he's a Rat fan going to college at either B.U. or Northeastern, and he used his girlfriend to set up Edelman for a fall. Time will tell. No one has identified her yet, where she's from, what she does. Victims rights umbrella. This WILL leak out though, especially if this was a set-up.Edelman was not wearing a costume mask, he was there as himself...that makes him a target

This "innocent until proven guilty" concept isn't a fiction. It's a legal concept put in place to protect people from being thrown in prison without getting a fair trial. It is based on gathering testimony and PROOF before determining guilt so that makes it pretty realistic in my book.

A legal fiction would be something more like the multiple shotgun scenario. Let's say two people shot at a bird at the same time and a guy got hit by one of the buckshot pellets. It's impossible to say which one is responsible for injuring the victim. However the law says both of them will be held jointly responsible instead of letting them point their finger at the other indefinitely. So both of them are held equally guilty and must pay for the injured man's hospital bills even though we don't know which one was technically guilty.

This example doesn't really work for me, because first of all, legally you can't discriminate on taxes based on gender because taxation is a government action and the government can't constitutionally use gender-based discrimination. Second of all the woman is lying about her actual gender, this isn't a 'legal fiction'. She's deceiving the government and got away with it.

As for Edelman, he groped the woman between the legs and there was a witness who saw it. I think it's pretty clear that he did it. Unless another teammate steps up and he says it didn't happen, or someone else steps forward to refute the story, and I haven't heard of anyone doing that, I think it's fairly obvious what happened and it does not look good for Edelman.

Holy crap, you are the epitome of a deranged insecure Pats fan who thinks something NY, or anything Jets are all out to get the Pats.

Get over yourself already, the dude made a mistake, the fact that you or anybody has to spin it being anything more than a juvenile and pathetic decision on his part is reaching for a rosy spin that isn't there.
