Eldelman Arrested (Update: All charges DROPPED)

Out with my brother one night in Manhattan, a now well known TV personality who had a cable game show at the time, grabbed the breasts of my brother's friend's girlfriend. The boyfriend got in his face, celebrity had two big doofuses with him who tossed boyfriend on the ground, next thing I know I'm grabbed as I help my brother bring boyfriend to his feet, everyone ends up on the floor.

This has nothing to do with anything other than I'm annoyed every time I see that breast grabbing &*^% on TV. If it were your daughter...

On the flip side, I had a friend in college grab a girl's butt as I was standing behind her, as a joke on me. She thought I did it, she became infuriated at me (rightly so). No explanations sufficed (and there was no boyfriend around). I was just standing there a few minutes after the incident, when I saw my friend duck his head into the room (I was in of a big bar in Georgetown), and he was laughing at me. She saw it, realized what had happened, then dumped a beer on his head.

If she was wearing a catwoman costume (ala Jessica Biel) or any form of scantily clad camo...lock me up now and throw away the key.

When I was younger my friend and I went as OB/GYN's. Tacky, I know...but I got to give a free breast exam when my date wasn't looking.

And this is why I love halloween.

What exactly are you saying? You seem to be pretty good at saying what you're not saying, but that's not helping me figuring out what you actually are saying.

If Edelman did what he's accused of doing, is it reprehensible? What's your position? It's not a hard question. My read of your "I'm not saying x" is that pretty much you think it's not. Don't want to put words in your mouth though.

My view is that it's pretty crappy for a grown adult to grab another in a private area without permission. It doesn't really seem like it's all that debatable, but I guess everything on the internet is debatable. If my view makes me someone who needs to "protect womanhood," whatever. Although pretty clearly, I'm not trying to impress anyone. I've been pretty happily married for a pretty long time.

Sure, it's rude and classless. Not sure he deserves to be shot, put in jail or lose his job over it though.

My view on getting your ass grabbed is that it's crappy, but having someone get arrested for it, if that's really all that happened, is probably overkill. I got my ass grabbed without my permission last night (yes, after midnight), and I wasn't exactly thrilled that it happened, but that's life when you choose to surround yourself with a bunch of drunk idiots in a bar. All in all, how I feel about it depends an awful lot on what Edelman, specifically, did. Was this the kind of thing that you see all the time if you go out on a weekend night, or is it something worse? I'd have to know a whole lot more about what actually happened to be able to have an informed opinion.

I don't disagree that context is important. If you're at a party or a club where there is some grabbing going on in an open, friendly way, and that's sort of the vibe, without knowing anything more (like someone saying, "that's not cool, don't do that again") you do have to start asking issues about implied consent. Or, at a minimum, a guy making a mistake and misreading the room in that kind of situation may not be as reprehensible as doing it at a starbucks. The facts always matter.

But some seem to be jumping to a "they're asking for it," or "what's the big deal" position without knowing the facts or context, which I think is pretty common in these sorts of situations. People sometimes get arrested for innocuous conduct that when you know all the facts seems less severe. Though it didn't involve an arrest, I don't think, Randy Moss got caught up in that kind of deal a few years ago and it taught everyone about jumping to conclusions.

But, in general, people that get arrested for sexual battery or assualt usually have done something to earn it. For every case that comes to your attention about a false or overblown example, there are probably a hundred that are routine and bad (although I admit that when a professional athlete is involved there could be some distortion). I hope this turns out to be an overblown example. We'll see. Otherwise, I stand by my original statement -- don't grab strangers in private areas in clubs and you don't have anything to worry about.

First Spikes, then Haynesworth, then Gronkowski and now this! I think this team is getting out of hand!!!

Next thing you know, we'll be hearing about beer and chicken in the locker room...

Rumor has it he made it 20 yds before being caught by the cops, apparently he went through the wrong lane.

When did this happen?

Baugher was cut *before* his arrest, and Willie Andrews, a similar "marginal talent" got a second chance.

Again, not saying he's safe, merely that there's no clear SOP here.

Hakim Abakar (sp) got in crap and was cut.

17 pages and counting for this?!

well, I think we can safely say he'd had a few.

Or very high. I would think this week might be the week Eldelman has a random drug test after seeing that picture.

OK, a half-Jewish muscular professional athlete with long hair who groped a girl. Might we have discovered the ultimate anomaly?

I know that this will not be a popular question, but here goes: What if he didn't do it?

Bad choice of word on this thread.
