And we haven't even seen Jackson yet.

Maroney looks like a stud.
Thomas and Mills look like very solid players.
O'Callaghan will be the RT sooner rather than later, I think.
Mincey and Smith flashed for late round picks.
Andrews fills a nice ST role and should keep Brown off the D in times of desperation.

Based on last night I may have skipped the Gost pick and just gone with Grammatica but there's time for that to change.

But this seems like a hell of a draft early on.

Well Said.Well Said..I definately believe we came out with one of the better overall drafts this year.I was totally happy watching the production from the rooks last night.I mean really.I havent seen this much excitement from patriots fans about a draft in some time. Now Gosh Darn..If Chad Jackson could somehow get on the field for next weeks game.We would be able to see what he is capable of.Thats the last question I have.As Far as the Ghost.I noticed he is the only Rook with a shaved head.Maroney's Dreads are great, there is ABSOLUTELY no way to lose that guy on the TV.He is very easy to spot.It also Seemed As though Asante's Got even Longer.Heh.Nice Post BelichickFan.

I've been saying this for a while... outside of Reggie Bush, we got THE running back of the draft. Factor in the Reggie Bush effect, and we have a number 1 in terms of other draft years.

I also see Chad Jackson as a legit first round wideout, as in, best wideout in this draft.

Gotskowski was a "need"/insurance choice... but taken at the right time. Mills and Thomas were totally NOT "need" choices, but the value was right, from all indications. We could have plugged up the LB position with an also-ran by that point, but evidently the thinking was the remains of the LB draft wasn't even up to the choices we knew we'd have in camp.

We'll see... but so far so good!

Yeah, this draft has the potential to be one of the top 5 drafts in the history of the Patriots. I don't want to get too excited, but Maroney looked very very good. Great explosion through the line, that's what I noticed the most about him, he EXPLODES through the line. He also has very good speed and moves, and obviously some power, they kept showing how he was breaking tackles, hardly ever going down from the first hit. I also noticed a very nice block on a passing play. He could be very very dangerous as a receiver too. Was suprised (but happy) not to see him out there on the kick return team.

Thomas showed some good hands, and some toughness, I thought he got a concussion on his first catch, and showed toughness coming back to play. He could definately be a secret weapon. I would not be shocked to see him get more receptions (than 2) as the preseason goes on. Not spectacular, but I think he will show us a lot more.

Mills, after dropping 1 or 2 passes showed the type of player he was in college. Someone mentioned that Belichick compared him to Larry Centers, if he could be half the receiver Centers was out of the backfield, the Pats got themselves one heck of a player.

Gostkoski showed very good leg strength (reached the endzone on almost every kickoff), though his accuracy may come into question. In the newspaper, it looks like he kicked a 34 yard field goal, but that sucker barely got inside the post. Regardless, he made the kick, probably felt a ton of pressure, I give him props. I think he will be a good kicker in the NFL (God, I wish we had that guy from Atlanta, what a f*cking leg !!!)

I was very inpressed with Mincey & Andrews. Mincey just looked the part, good size and speed. Andrews looked comfortable with the return game, and though small, seems to like to hit when he was playing in the secondary.

O'Callahan & Stevenson will make the team, and O'Callahan looks to possibly be the steal of our draft. The backup line seemed not to miss a beat, as our running game stayed productive well into the 4th quarter. Our pass protection was a little shoddy though. I'm not too worried about this when the regular season starts, because our starters are good at both run blocking and pass protection.

LeKevin Smith looked pretty good too, made some nice plays.

Overall, it's quite possible that all of our picks make the team, whether as practice squad players or on the roster. It's imperative that we get Jackson back though. He is our most important draft choice due to the fact that we are so thin at WR. My biggest nightmare is having Kelvin Kight as our starting WR opposite Caldwell vs Buffalo in the opener, though that means more passes go Watson's way, which aint a bad thing !!

I agree, this yrs. draft class absolutely carried us last night. It was awesome seeing W. Andrews, Maroney, and many of the others step up and show flashes. Cobbs was pretty fun to watch as well. The way this team is looking to shape up, my question is this. Who needs high priced prima donna wideouts when we have so many TE/FB hybrids at our disposal?
The power running game can be there, and not to mention the mismatches with players like Mills, Thomas, and Watson. Dillon, Maroney and Faulk can be a Cerberus for us. I know, just one preseason game, but I couldnt help but get excite after watching Dillon toting the rock up the middle the way he did last night.
Let's just pray for the health of our boys. If players can recover and stay healthy, we'll be alright.

No one crucify me, I'm entitled to my opinion . Maroney looked good, but he was going up against a bad run defense with two pass rushers (Kerney/ Abraham), and no real run stopper. Our O-line however, was fantastic, and handled the pressure well for a majority of the time.

Our number 2 pick isn't on the field, and no one knows when he will be back. That being said, he has the makings of a star, and I know he will pan out.

Mills had most of his catches against backups that had no clue what they were doing.

Our fourth round kicker played OK for his first game, but he mad me flinch with his field goals.

Mincey, Woods, and Thomas played well for where they were chosen.

Next week, we will get to see how our defense holds up against a potent Colts like Cardinals offense. I'm especially interested in if Beisel can stop James, and how our corners match up against the physical Cardy's recievers. Maroney will get another chance to prove himself against a top 10 run defense, and we will get to see if Cassel can pick apart bad pass defenses. :rocker:

GO PATS!!!!!

I agree and I thought our first two rounds were excellent at the time also, although I wanted Lawson.

Looks like we'll have to cut some talented running back/receiver types as well as backup DLinemen and OLine.

Cobbs, Pass Faulk and Mills can't all play, (or ride the bench).

Santonio Thomas, Le Kevin, Marquise Hill, Wright and Klecko all compete for spots as the Maytag repairman behind a great young line.

Dan Stevenson? Practice squad, if that. If he makes it, who's cut?

Did we spend a 4th on a kicker who won't make the team?

I know Belichick once said what good is a player if we can't use him or some such, (a little quote help)?

Talent and competition are great. But a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.

Did we address all our needs through the draft and F.A.?

Or do we still have a tremendous lack of talent at one position while we'll be forced to cut talented players at others?

The quote in your sig is appropriate too.

Don't Give Me a Defensive Player Who Can't Tackle . . . What Am I Going to Do With Him ? --- Bill Belichick

Cobbs can ride the bench and if he continues to perform as he did last night, the he will not be going anywhere. Faulk is getting up there in age, and isnt the most durable of players. Cobbs could be molded into his eventual replacement, and if that scenario worked out right, then that would be awesome. Pass is gone! Faulk will continue to keep his 3rd down/passing down role, and Mills can line up at TE, FB or HB, no way he doesnt make this team. That's how I see our RB situation working out.

Love the talent ad competition at RB/FB/TE and OL and backup DL.

It is superior.

I also think they've filled in well in the secondary with low-mid picks and affordable vets, avoiding high paid primadonnas at a usually expensive position.

Why the black hole at LB then? Besides our 2, (we're down to 2 proven linebACKERS btw.) proven backers, only the special teams guys(fill in Ilbs at 230 lbs.), Woods and Mincey looked like they were ready to play.
