Look, I hate Asante Samuel with a passion unrivaled. The guy had a Bill Buckner-esque drop that would've given us 19-0. My future children and grandchildren will have the name burned into their minds and he'll serve as the Satan figure in my Bill Belichick-centric religion that I teach them.
Hyperbole and irrational hatred aside - if anyone here thinks Samuel wouldn't immediately be the best member of our secondary, warts and all, they are fooling themselves. He has cover skills that no one on this team has, and likely ever will.
And that dose of reality aside, here's another - there's no way in hell we'll trade for him. Jonathan Kraft did everything but say he wouldn't give the guy a drink of water if he were starving on the side of the road, I don't see Belichick getting him or his father, who writes the checks, to change his mind.
Whatever team trades for him will have to get him to reduce his base salary, as we did with Branch.
Our better course of action would be to see if Meyer can give Janoris Jenkins the thumbs up, and draft him at 27 or 31 when he drops. He's a top 10 talent with red flags. Check the red flags, take the chance if due diligence pans out.
