Dungy wrong but league changes rule back to keep him from crying.

My understanding was that the refs called the game correctly. However Dungy complained that they were not following the "spirit of the rule". The NFL then changed (not the rule, just the way they call it) and decieded to call it the way Dungy suggested.

Is everyone so anti-Dungy and anti-Polian that you don't see the truth here?

Dungy's point was that the Jets weren't held to the same rules regarding the no-huddle that refs have held the Colts to. That's a valid concern.

But in the end, the notice last week that the league would uphold the spirit rather than the letter of the rules does NOT mean the league reinterpreted the rules to the benefit of the Colts. Overall the Colts are HURT by the rule, since they run the no-huddle much often than they see it. If they are allowed to do what the Jets did the Colts would benefit.

This is a case of the league SMACKING DOWN the Colts.

It wouldn't surprise me if "Napolian"'s influence is on the wane.

The bully Napolian and his flunkies at the Competition Committee are trying desperately to get an edge for their 'offense' first type teams. The problem is that they are outsmarting themselves. Witness Holmgren falling prey to a ticky tack pass interference call in the superbowl, where the defender actually pushed Jackson a few yards outside the endzone before jackson returned the push. A couple years ago, the ref would have let them just play.

If these fools continue to make everything that they can illegal, the rules will be just as tough on them in the long run.

Dungy may have unwittingly created his own bed of nails by negating a key advantage of the no-huddle. I certainly hope so, it is no more than the Colts deserve.

I don't think so. The key to the way the Colts run the no huddle is that the Colts don't sub, they run out of one of their base packages and exploit the defense that is caught on the field unable to sub. As long as the offense is not subbing, they do not have to let the defense. So if the Colts catch a team with the run defense in, they will exploit it by passing against it and if the catch them in the nickle package, then they can run against.
