This coming off-season:
Patriots would not trade Maye to any team for any 1 player.
Every team in the NFL, this off-season should trade any 1 player they have for Drake Maye....and throw in at least a 2nd round pick.

This is different than if you needed to win a game tomorrow would you start Drake Maye over Allen, Herbert etc. (though might be 6 guys Max in that scenario)

The reasoning is Maye is 23 next season and on a rookie contract and will be a top 3 QB in 2025.

Everything is not so bad when you have the most valuable player in the NFL.

Also, before the draft I said I would have traded three #1 picks for Maye if I had to move up, of course that included the current year, so you were giving up two future #1 picks to move up. Many thought that was crazy.
If Giants finish 1st overall this year, or any team, would you trade Maye for two #1 picks including #1 overall this year? How about 3 #1 picks? Didn't think so.

It's a good thought experiment.

I admit to thinking similar things the other night. Would I trade Maye for... ?

Mahomes is still only 29 years old. He has another 8 years left in him.

You don't know if Maye's development is going to continue or if it's going to stall.

You can always have an Andrew Luck on your hands. It's possible.

But I think your main point overall is right.

I'd also take Maye over CJ Stroud and Joe Burrow.

Burrow is fantastic, but I've seen him get very jittery so many times late in big games. I don't know how he earned the nickname Joe Cool.

Ok this is a different take.

Still under your criteria the rest of the league would consider Stroud or Daniels above Maye currently.

Nah.. you don't hit lottery many times. We hit once with Brady and now with Maye. Our first rounders have been damp squibs. -- Wynn, Michel, harry, Mac, strange .. so no not trading our most valuable player even for 5 1s.

Thing about this is that these guys are good/decent on their current teams…imagine if we traded for Kermit and he flops big time…then the other side of the coin is they could ball. Doing something like this when you have a semi known commodity in drake would be hugely risky. Enticing but risky.

Care to put some money on that? Heck I'll even do a "donate money to your favorite charity" thing, if a straight bet isn't your thing.

Look, I like the kid but Top 3? That's a bold claim.

Don't go there on Brady Pt II please lets' hope Maye is a Joe Burrow. The Bengals problem are on Defense and they don't a game changing RB anymore... they miss That guy below.

Even when the article about advanced metrics shows that Future-HoFer-Herbert is overrated, they need to state that “he is good despite the metrics”. So he doesn’t win (until this year so far) ; he doesn’t get to or win in the playoffs ; he shows poorly in this article……. But don’t worry : he’s still great !

? Huh?

I said Joe Burrow gets jittery and chokes a lot at the end of tight games. It's true.

Where did I say Drake Maye is Brady?

Nowhere.

Why do people do this?

Not if they watch tape. I've watched almost every throw of Nix, Daniels, Williams and Maye this year. Just like in college Maye is just at another level, it is really not that close on tape.
If the draft was held today Maye goes #1 overall IMO.

Brady pt.II meant Joe Burrow.

The Bengals lost some very close games they are better than their record. I think they can still win out.

There's too much criteria to make a bet, the main criteria I'm looking at is based on tape review.

I mean people think Joe Burrow is great but his stats not throwing to Jamar Chase are Bryce Young level and the tape shows he's overrated. But you would find some, not most, people putting Burrow in the top 3, not sure where he falls but it's not top 7 for sure based on his tape reviews.

Very lucky us.

Except I don't find it risky, Mahomes is 30 next year and on a big contract. Coming out of college Maye, Mahomes and Herbert were the only 3 guys the last decade that I went back and reviewed film on that were can't miss guys.
Maye was #1 of those 3 as a prospects. I get that many did not have it that way but I based it on a pretty detailed historical analysis of what works as a QB.

Mahomes is 66 million in cap space next year, Maye is 8 million.
Reid makes that trade and extend his Super Bowl window 6-7 more years. And the drop off from the way Mahomes is playing THIS year to Maye next year, not sure it will be so great that the extra cap money for players won't make up for it.

If I had to win a playoff game tomorrow I'm taking Allen, Herbert, Mahomes, Stafford, Mayfield. That might be my list. Jackson and Burrow I don't like in playoff games, Burrow has more picks than TD's in the 4th quarter of playoff games. Jackson has been terrible in the playoffs.

In terms of trading straight up All 5 are on big contracts, and only Herbert is young enough at 26 to consider based on age.

I've been saying this about Burrow for a long time. It's not a new thing this year.

This kid is showing so much promise and we are so lucky
We may strike gold twice at the most important position
I hope he is Top 3 in 2025
My guess is it takes at least 3-4 years to get there
He still has so much to learn and clean up.
But I like your optimism
