Drake Maye has arrived . . .

This is why continuing to build his offensive line should be a priority. Give him a clean pocket to step up into and the opposing defense has no chance.
Give him a good OL and he’ll be able to win Super Bowls with receivers like Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell. No need for dominant WR1s, especially with Drake’s running ability.

Yes, I want him behind a good line. And eventually he will be, but man wouldn’t it be fun to see him throwing to an elite WR and elite TE ?

Literally the only weak spot I see in his game right now is one opponents can’t control: wet weather.
FIFY.

Not just wet, he’s still a little questionable in cold and snow. We’ve seen him a little in cold, not a lot and he didn’t look as sharp in the cold as he usually is, iirc. Don’t recall seeing him in snow.

He really needs to thrive in those conditions to solidify Gillette as a home field advantage.

No. Not really a fan of that circus, myself. It was fun watching TB12 throwing to Moss and Gronk but I think in some ways they spoiled Tom. Before Randy got here Brady was happy throwing it to his favorite receiver, the one that was open. After Randy got here it seemed like Brady was reading his receivers the way he read defenses, making a snap judgment about who was worthy of his favor and freezing out any who he didn’t like.

So I’m happy to see a balanced offense, where we can diss Diggs as not a true #1 and call Barefoot Mack Hollins a JAG and see that JAG easily replaced by an inexperienced UDFA catching his first NFL passes and scoring his first TD. It’s a different kind of fun, and I like it as much or more than worrying about psycho divas who happen to be athletic freaks,

Although it might be fun watching Antonio Brown do a strip tease on the field before walking off in the middle of a game. Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!

If we want to see him throwing to a dominant WR then we have to draft one and use him for 5 years because the teams paying $40m a year to WRs aren't going anywhere.

You have these guys for 4 years, not even 5, or 3 years, and then you trade the away to some gullible team.

Consider the draft we all lament: 2019. We took Harry. But 5 of the 9 WRs taken in the first 2 rounds busted. Two of them were traded and signed huge contracts elsewhere (Hollywood and AJ). One busted on his 2nd contract and the other was top notch until he became a malcontent. Deebo and DK also left their original teams.

So, NONE of the teams who selected these guys 6 years ago managed to keep them on their teams.

They either let them get away in FA or traded them before their contracts were up.

This means you have them for 3 or 4 (or 5 years if they're 2nd rounders).

49ers Traded Deebo to clear cap space and picked up a Fifth in the Process. Deebo was injury prone I think of all those Receivers only Terry MacLaurin is with his original Team. Drafting them is still the best way to go.

We don’t need to invest like crazy on WRs and TEs because we just won the once a decade lottery at the most important position. Better to build an elite defense that can put the ball in Maye’s hands and an OL to buy him time.

As I said, first 2 rounds. McLaurin was a 4th. Which is another reason he has stayed. The premium guys want more money. For whatever reason, none of the premium guys stayed with their original teams, and 5 of them were outright busts.

Now test one complete. Passed. Now much better teams with much better defenses and offenses. For Drake, do your job and let's see if this team is ready for what it takes to be the best...

An interesting thing I’ve realized about Maye’s game is that he’s incredibly hard for me to predict where he’s going with the ball post snap but before the throw happens. With Brady I could get it right about half of the time.

It doesn’t help you that McDaniels/Maye do not seem enamored of the Brady-era hyperproductive slot receiver role.

What Chaisson says here is one of the main things that struck me watching Maye in college.
He makes playing QB LOOK easy. Gonzo another Patriots that kind of has that look about him. For some guy's football is just easier than it is for others but Maye, especially as a QB, takes it to another level.
