Drake Maye has arrived . . .

The cherry picking of stats is always a tad cringe, but its good to see him burst out of the gates like he has.

Last year gave me hope because he played pretty good while running for his life every play.

This years line is better and the results are impressive.

Finish building that wall in front of him and its gonna be good.
I agree and am on board with solidifying the OL. Upgrade the OL to protect Maye better and improve run blocking.

I get what you guys are saying, but if any owner presents Josh with a contract that includes 7 zeros and is guaranteed, even if it's from a crazy lady, that's a lot of money to turn down. Especially given that it really might be his last chance at a HC gig.
How much money does he need? He's already set for life.

The Patriots have a better history, culture, and much better QB than the Titans. Say what you will about Robert, but he is still a great owner imo.

Why would he throw that away to go fail in Tennessee?

I would add that sometimes he either does not see or does not trust what he sees. After watching replays/game I have noticed him turning down or not seeing open throws and scramble, which he makes positive plays but it just adds to unnecessary hits. Very small nitpick, but I would like to see him stay healthy.

He has checked into alerts and altered protections, but it doesn't seem like its very often, I imagine that will come with more reps/experience.

Edit: I just saw the post about Warner and O'Sullivan pointing it out, so please ignore my ramblings
I’m not going to ignore your ramblings.

I’m going to give you credit for independently arriving at the same insights that Warner and O’Sullivan did.

Proctor in the 1st?

World in the 2nd?

Would be so massive. The gravitational pull would alter the moon's orbit.
I doubt they'll double down on OL like that, but I do expect them to draft at least one next year.

JT O'Sullivan throws some shade on Drake Maye's Titans performance in his new QB School vlog.

Says Drake has some open receivers but chooses to run after the first read in some situations. Seems valid.

One thing I think is noteworthy about JT’s analysis is how often he points out multiple open receivers. He shows completions where there was another open receiver, sometimes for a better play result. He shows plays the he calls “one and run” where if the first read isn’t there Drake runs even though there is another receiver open, and on some of those runs he points out there were more than one open receiver.

Reason I mention this is that it makes me think those who want us to trade for a WR upgrade (I’m looking at you PF2, and your twin 2 too) should be prepared for the possibility that if we did make such a trade we might not see the desired results until we get better QB play instead of Drake’s present one and run habit.

Another thing about this is that it helps inflate Drake’s eye popping completion percentages if he cuts and runs any time there’s any doubt in his mind about the certainty of a completion. It’s going to reduce turnover worthy throws and hospital balls, but those risks are reduced at the risk that he will have his head slammed against the ground and miss some time. He narrowly dodged a bullet when he only missed a handful of plays against the Titans. Next time he may not be so lucky. Staying in the pocket and not being so quick to use his legs would be an improvement in his game, as JT clearly explains.

It's not shade, it's very valid criticism. Maye really needs to learn to work the pocket instead of regressing into happy feet. As JT says, Maye has lost big plays by not staying in his base. I have noticed that once Maye goes happy feet, the likelihood that it happens again and again shoots up.

I think defenses are going to start designing around this tendency. They'll tease him with open looks up the middle, show him an open lane and lure him into running.

OL discussed in detail on the draft forum. Incredibly deep class - OL guru Brandon Thorn thinks there will be around 14 top 100 caliber and starting caliber players into day 3.

Proctor/World would be epic, but cost a lot of draft capital. I would like 2 OLs, but at least 1 day 3.

My personal favorites: Austin Siereveld (Ohio St.) and Monroe Freeling (Georgia). Both 4 star recruits. Siereveld is a 4 position lineman, Freeling has played both tackle spots and is Seabass Jr.

But about 20+ good players.

That said he and Josh must know all this, and it's not like he's running 15 times a game. (It's around 6, including kneels.)

Plus. . . . He's said he doesn't care about stats over winning, so what is the logic behind bailing so much?

Yep, but look at the flip side too: there are plenty of cherries to pick from the way Maye is playing.

Lot of QBs have slim pickings on their cherry gardens. Some have no cherries at all.

He's already got that here, since the Raiders are paying him $10M/year through 2027, minus whatever we pay him.

To me it all comes down to ego. If his ego insists on him being a HC, then he might go. If it doesn't, I think he'll stay here, watch his children and his bank balance grow and be happy as one of the best OCs in the NFL with one of the best QBs in the NFL. Seems like a pretty satisfying life for him, and for his family.

Also I would add that being HC didn't turn out well for him twice (three times if we count that Colts thing) and that being HC comes with a lot more pressure. He perhaps might not feel confident that he'll be very good at it if given a third chance, since that's what the data suggests. However, the ego doesn't look much at data...

At least one instance of that was called out in the GDT, a play where Maye could have just chucked it into the stands but instead ran it back to the line of scrimmage and darted out before he got hit. All I could think of was that he was trying to avoid the incompletion on his stats sheet. That's what I was thinking but of course I have no idea what he was thinking.

I think it also comes down to restlessness, if you will. The first time, he was OC for four years, and it was clear he wasn't going to be HC in Foxboro anytime soon. The second time, he was OC for a decade, and again it was clear he wasn't going to be HC in Foxboro anytime soon (after Kraft decided on Mayo).

Plus, with no disrespect to TFB, he finally has a QB who can do pretty much everything.

I have a co-worker in the office who is a Commanders fan.

He says he is happy with Daniels, but seeing Daniels miss games, which was my biggest concern, and watching Maye own the NFL has to be giving him pause.

It's risky though. I feel like running QB's get injured more.
It would be interesting to see how many QBs got inquired actually trying to advance the ball vs sacked/contact in the backfield.

I have watched all his videos on Maye this season. He also will harp on the foot work, even though Drake is leading the league in many accuracy categories. But again in these plays that he says Maye missed an open guy more times than not Maye runs for the first. I get it though he did take some shots. But I take his commentary with a grain of salt. Its much easier to watch a video and say what should have been done rather than being on the battlefield with bullets going down range. Also we dont know what instructions Josh is giving Drake during the game.

Thing is, it's probably tough for a QB in the moment to say "Hey it's week 7. No point in sliding here." It's natural instinct. Of course, if it's the postseason, you want him picking up first downs by any means possible. But he isn't thinking that way.

Longstory short, how do they get him to limit running in the regular season. Bit tell him it's ok in the postseason for instance?

The "good" thing with Brady was that he wasn't a running QB to begin with. So concerns of late hits were not there as much.

Totally agree with cherry picking of stats. Like if I played in the NFL and threw a touch down I would then hold the record as the only guy who is right handed but wipes his ass with his left.

After the beating he took last year you blame him for popping smoke when **** starts to go sideways? Also from Josh's mouth in preseason they want him to take the first option that nets positive yardage and not be greedy. So yeah there are plays that someone else is open for a bigger gain but I dont think thats how he is being coached. I agree with time he will see more of the field, the game slows down, more confidence in the people around him. But for now the kid plays lights out and I dont see nothing to complain about.
