Draftdaddy: Pats looking to trade for Lito Sheppard [mergedx2]

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

We're not trading for Huff. We already have our starting FS.

Huff, IMO, would make a very good corner in the Patriots system. He has not been a standout, but has been a pretty decent player. IMO, his value was overhyped following the draft. If he was picked in the 20's instead of top 10, people would be talking about him as a fine young defensive back, but since he was drafted so high he's regarded as something as a bust.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

Hasn't Sheppard had trouble with injuries recently? The last thing we need is a brittle CB. Aside from that I'm not against the idea, he is a more physical corner which BB seems to like...

Huff has even said it himself that he does not want to play CB. He wants to be a safety and a FS at that.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

Sounds to me like this guy is reaching. Lets see, the Pats need a LB and a CB so I'll just start rumors that they were interested in a lot of LBs and CBs.

Or maybe they are interested in LB and CB because they need LB and CB.

Everyone? The guy said they were interested in Smith, I seriously doubt that. That guy is freaking terrible. The only reason it sounds funny to me is it seems like he is just seeing all their needs and making claims. Didn't the Eagles say they weren't shopping Lito?

FYI. DraftDaddy had some pretty valuable info last year on more than a few occasions. Whoever these guys know its someone worth listening too.

Trust me these guys know there stuff.

Like what? I'm curious, I never really messed with draftdaddy before and I hesitate a lot before I get too excited at rumors. What subjects were they correct on before?

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

FYI Sheppard turns 27 in April.

His contract info: runs through 2011. He is scheduled to earn $2 million next season, $3 million in 2009, $3.7 million in 2010 and $4.25 million in 2011. Not sure about bonuses or incentives but he was reportedly unhappy and wanted to be traded.

It's a no-brainer for the 2nd round pick but I doubt that's enough.

Sorry if this was already mentioned by another poster, but there are many replies that I've not yet read through and the following point seems obvious enough. Nevertheless....

The only reason I see the Eagles getting rid of Sheppard, given that his contract is very reasonable or even cheap considering the contracts CBs received last season and will receive this offseason, is if the team is going in a different direction with McNabb. And if so, I can't imagine the Eagles settling for anything less than the Pats' seventh overall pick for a chance to draft McNabb's replacement.

Except for the fact that they drafted Kevin Kolb last season.

I could see the Eagles wanting to get rid of a disgruntled player quicker than most other teams because of the shell shock remaining from the TO fiasco. Also, if they're thinking about pursuing Asante as some rumors have reported they may not want to commit so much dough to one position.

Sheppard's under contract for four years; whoever has his rights will be dealing with this situation from a very, very good position of strength, whether that's the Eagles or the New England Patriots. That's one reason why the Eagles dealing him to anyone makes very little sense.

Cant give you specifics but they here whos going where before the guys even sign the deal.

I totally forgot about Kolb. My bad. Either way, my point still stands and I still don't see why the Eagles would not hold out for a first rounder if indeed they're intersted in unloading the guy. He's a proven commodity signed to contractual terms that are of benefit to teams.

The only reason I can think is that they don't want to deal with a player complaining about his contract because they're weary of how that can ruin a team if it gets out of control. Simply an idea, but it wouldn't surprise me if they've been completely ****ified by what TO did and now they want to dump any player who seems like a malcontent.

Re: Some Patriots stuff from draftdaddy

Not sure about bonuses
That's another thing that may sway the Eagles one way or another...I think they would still have to eat all the bonus $$ they've paid out to him against their cap if they spread any of it over the contract. If it's a decent sized hit, they may want more for him or else they would just keep him.

Rumor: Pats looking to trade for Lito Sheppard??

PATS LOOKING AT LITO?

With New England cornerback Asante Samuel poised to put his name on the dotted line for the highest bidder, the Pats will need some help at the cornerback position.

And one of the rumors making the rounds is that the Patriots are interested in Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard.

The only problem is that Sheppard officially isn't on the market. When rumors broke last week of a possible trade, the team denied that Sheppard has received permission to seek a trade.

But that doesn't mean trade offers and inquiries won't come in.

Re: Rumor: Pats looking to trade for Lito Sheppard??

With all the great players at the very top of this draft, New England would be absolutely insane to trade that pick before draft day.

Matt Ryan or McFadden might fall to #7, and if that happens, we'll have a king's ransom returned to us in a trade, a #1 this year and another next year.

Re: Rumor: Pats looking to trade for Lito Sheppard??

I'd love to have Lito. The eagles may have to trade him if they do sign Asante. He's a very underrated corner, who is physical. Remember what he did to Moss.

What makes you think that would be the pick in question...

Exactly what I was thinking.....how would you all feel if we were able to pry Lito loose WITHOUT giving up that #7?? Now that would be exciting......let's hope.

Re: Rumor: Pats looking to trade for Lito Sheppard??

A Third and and a fifth would be nice.. And also a draft Cb and sign Ty law, will make up for Assante...
