One of my favorite things about a Pats draft is the trades that usually ensue, and following all the tentacles of those trades. This one did not disappoint, with 3 trades:

1. we moved down from 21 to 29, picking up a 3rd (94) and a 4th (121).
- with 29, we drafted Cole Strange, who was the guy we wanted more than anyone in this draft
- with the 3/94, we traded it to Carolina - see #3 below
- with the 4/121, we drafted CB Jack Jones.

2. we moved up from 54 to 50, paying a 5th (158) to do it, in order to grab Tyquan Thornton

3. with the 3/94 that we traded to Carolina, we got a 4/137 and a 2023 3rd.
- with the 4/137, we drafted QB Bailey Zappe
- the 2023 3rd is gonna be a very high 3rd. The Panthers play the Bucs and Saints twice, the Rams, Ravens, Bengals, Broncos, Browns, Steelers, 49ers, Seahawks in Seattle, and the Cardinals. Also the Falcons twice, the Giants, and the Lions. They'll win 5 games max. Our pick will be about #69 or 70.

So the profit from the trades was:
- Jack Jones
- Bailey Zappe
- a pick at the top of the 3rd round next year, a very valuable asset
- we did sacrifice a 2022 5th, but that was just to make sure we got Thornton

Great wheeling & dealing. I think Groh learned from the best this draft day.

I like getting the 2023 3rd from Carolina. Excellent trade and should be a very high pick as you mentioned.

Plus, we got Devante Parker and a #5 for future #3 so although they're not the exact same picks we got Parker, Jones, Zappe for the trade down (and probably move up in the third round next year).

Yeah if you add that trade in, then our net gain from recent trading is Devonta Parker, Jack Jones, Bailey Zappe, a 2023 upgrade of our 3rd rounder from probably 90 to 70, and the help we needed (a 5th) to move up to get Thornton.

We do not know this. On the radio the other day they were saying there’s a league rumour that the Pats wanted D. Lloyd and thought they could get him at 29. Jacksonville suspected this and traded in front of us. Who knows if it’s true or just a rumour but at the end of the day only the Pats draft room knows “who they wanted more than anyone in the draft.” The player they liked best may have been chosen a few picks before 21. None of us know who they liked best.

Coulda been for sure, we'll never know. But they probably figured when they traded down that Lloyd and some others might be gone by 29, and that Strange would still be there, yet they still pulled the trigger on the trade. I think we also had a bigger need at OG than LB.

We weren't the only Team that passed on Travis Jones until the Ravens picked him. But if he becomes really good player theres' going to be a lot of what could have been. He really shined at the Senior Bowl guess we didn't like him enough.
