A team puts up 400 yards of offense and their defense shuts down their opponents most dangerous weapon who has a big goose head in catches and yet not only do they lose the game, but by 27 points....has to be some sort of record

Stats are for losers as BB puts it,it screamed that tonight at least

The 2001 Patriots are on line one for ya.

No one seem to have noticed that Chung was in man coverage over Marshall and did a pretty decent job. Based on last year's Chung, I can't imagine him even being given that assignment, let alone pulling it off while also blocking 2 kicks. Chung's improvement trajectory is sky high...

That's all of what was going through my head watching this game.

Sometimes you win cuz you dominated on offense or defense. This was just a complete win for the football team. Every phase of the team did what they needed to do, a great win.

I've said all year, when these players EXECUTE, this coaching staff looks good. Tonight they completely smacked the Dolphins coaching staff around, they made them look like a joke. They ****ed up in the red zone, turn overs, etc.

If the Pats lose like this, everyone would be saying how outcoached they were. My good people of Patriot Nation, Mr. Belichick just handed coach Sparano a solid, bent over ass whooping in coaching 101.

400 yards of offense is not always the same thing
About 240 of it came in the second half.
Also in the second half came a KO return TD. an Int Td, a blocked kick TD and a blocked punt leading to a 2 play drive for a TD.
That is 4 possessions that our offense didn't have, 4 back to back possessions for them. Basically they had the ball twice as much as they should have, and a lot of it against a prevent defense.
If we didnt have those 4 scores, there are probably 10 minutes of game time that we have the ball and they dont and that yardage total is a lot different.

Yards are a pretty pointless stat if they aren't leading to points. People get to caught up in them sometimes.

True. How long was Brady actually on the field for in the second half? It damn sure couldn't have been 10 minutes. I was impressed with the defense all night, they controled the tempo of the game.

There was a thread recently discussing the difference between defenses.

Our 3-4 defense is a read and react defense, which is going to give up the yards, but they lock down when the field is tight and prevent the big play. Tonight was a pretty near perfect example of the defense executed properly.

I think we may see a lot of 400 yard games against our D this year. If you look at an average defense, and for the moment I think that is what they are, nowadays, this is a typical number. What I think is going to be important, as in this game, is that the team wins the turnover battle. So far in the 3 wins they have clearly done this. Also, I was impressed that the D did not seem to run out of gas in the 4th quarter, although being up by a ton always helps with this and their seemed to be a lot of substitution going on throughout the second half..
