Dolphins on to new candidate for vacant GM job: Patriots director of pro personnel Nick Caserio, who is in Miami interviewing today.

Caserio would become the youngest GM in the NFL.

Someone beat me to it...Delete please.

I wonder if he's trying to get leverage to try to get promoted, and why he hasn't already been promoted.

Re: Dolphins interving Nick Caserio

Wow why does it seem like everyone is leaving us this year. Pepper scar and possibly nick and josh???? Ahhhh

BB is a mastermind.. there is NO WAY that Caserio takes that job. It has been categorized as the worst job due to the current leadership tier there.

Caserio walks away with a ton of info how things work internally with Phins.

Hopefully Caserio's smart enough not to take the job. Meddling, clueless, win-now owner? Check. Huge contracts for non-elite players handed out just this past offseason? Check. Ineffectual coach already in place? Check. Franchise QB who probably isn't a franchise QB? Check.

Sounds like a winning situation.

Re: Report:Nick Caserio interviewing in Miami

Noooooooooo!

The drafting by the Pats has been very good for the last three to four years. Don't want to see him go especially in the division.

I hope he thinks longterm in this situation too. He could still become of the
youngest GMs of a great franchise in his 40s if he just stays and waits out the
end of the BB/Brady era.

This is ridiculous. He's been a hot GM candidate for years and has turned down GM interviews, and this is the one he finally takes? Outside of full control over the front office and coaching staff, there's nothing that could remotely salvage that job. Right now, Dawn Aponte and Joe Philbin each report directly to the owner, Stephen Ross. That's an absolute nightmare for any GM.

I agree on the surface, but maybe he'd want to live in Miami with full roster control and sole GM pay. It's not exactly a nightmare job from that perspective. In fact, I don't think I'd qualify any GM job as a nightmare job, compared to most other stuff that's out there. Heck, maybe he just wants to scout players somewhere other than friggin' Rutgers. Hahahaha (I'm mostly joking, but we don't really know how/if the job here has changed and if that's for better or worse for Caserio.) If they're bumping heads at all, it might be a good move.

I like Caserio, but honestly whoever we have in the position is still sort of a backup to BB anyway. I'm not sure it matters so much who is back there until BB retires or finally relinquishes more control to a true GM.

The Patriots should promote him and give him a big raise.

..........after being the Atlanta Falcons assistant GM for only a few days..........

The Patriots should promote him and give him a big raise.

The only way they can promote him is by giving him final say over the roster. There isn't anyone above him on the administrative side.

[Oh, and for the record, because the Patriots' "GM" doesn't have final say over the roster, the Patriots can't prevent whoever holds that title from interviewing for positions that do have it.]

Exactly. A promotion would be in title only in NE. For a true promotion, he'd have to go elsewhere so long as BB is still employed by the Patriots. I don't believe Belichick is going to relinquish his responsibilities in roster decisions just to keep Caserio on board.

Feels like the wheels to the bus are coming off in Patriots land! Maybe BB was a little pissed they lost that game and he is on the warpath! Change might be good.

I would like to see BB give more power to whoever helps picks the players. I am starting to think his way of thinking is setting the team back. Josh goes to Denver drafts a stud WR, the Falcons GM who used to be on the Pats staff also drafts a stud WR. I don't see BB drafting those players and I think that is where the friction is between BB and his understudies.

No one has been fired.

No one has been fired.

And even if Belichick and/or Kraft were looking to fire people, Caserio would be just about the last person that should be sacked.

Perhaps he knows that BB is going to stay with the Pats long term in the GM role after he retires from coaching. This means he's hit the glass ceiling w/the organization and if that's the case he should wait for a better opportunity than the one w/the Dolphins which is rather dysfunctional.
