Does the bye-week help or hurt the Pats?

We haven't won a ring without a first round bye. That's enough for me to say it helps. Part of the problem with teams that have byes is that they sit their players in the last couple games of the regular season, and some have trouble getting back into a groove when they're off for x amount of weeks. Belichick has never rested his players when there was nothing to play for, and it has helped his case.

While I picked the colts in a savage beating, they may have trouble because they haven't played real football in several weeks. The same goes for the cowboys.

Are you saying that "the Colts are ripe for the pickin' ......."?

The bye was extremely important for a team that dealt with the relentless pressure of the undefeated season. Mentally they needed a break. Physically they know how to take rest, and then ramp it back up since they've done it before. The team knows how to handle this. The pressure was relentless from week 2, and this was the only reward they could get.

Of course my stat that the Patriots win by an avg of 46 points after a bye and that the Pats are undefeated after a bye is crap. We are talking about a sample size of 1.

...also BB was 9-0 (as a HC) or whatever it was before his first playoff loss. WHat do you think that record meant to him after his first loss, prolly not much.

This bye helped our team via a bit of rest, but historically (wins vs losses)byes mean nothing on Saturday.

"And I'm moving on to the San Diego Chargers...wait the Jacksonville Jaguars".

Come on Saturday.........:rocker:

Charger Fan I've got to believe at some point the lightbulb goes on in the minds of your best players. That they realize they need to do their talking on the field and with their performance as a TEAM. It's interesting but the Giants of the past have been very much like the Chargers. Very talented, very talkative and very underachieiving. They seem to have figured it out this year. They do a whole lot less chirping and trashtalking in the media than in the past. Maybe last weeks game took the pressure off your guys and maybe they're reading some the critiques about their personna and will finally grow up and grow into a team. We'll see. I do know one thing, you've got the talent on both sides of the ball to give any team in the NFL a tough challenge for 60 minutes. Good luck to you also. Should be a very interesting weekend of football.

If you read our message boards, it's starting to become clear that most of our fans are getting fed up with all the trash talking, pouting, whining and temper tantrums. We want to win, and we want to be proud of our team.

To me, I believe a lot has to to with immaturity - we have a pretty young team. In addition, the veterans need to step up, take some control and make it clear that we haven't done anything yet. No Superbowl win. No playoff wins (until this year) since 1994. We have a lot to prove. And finally, a lot, IMO, has to do with the coaching - they can't allow that kind of stuff to happen.

Judging from the pre-game interviews this week, seems they have been pretty quiet which is a good sign. Hopefully they are starting to figure things out. We'll have to wait and see.

I second that all i want is a charger team to be proud of and in all honesty believe we are starting to learn...

A Bye helps the team. The players have more time to relax for a couple of days and then get back to work hard. The coaching staff has extra time to prepare and nicked up players can heal up. So it helps

Hey Patsfans,

I hadn't seen this posted anywhere else, and just wondering what you all think. Looking back at your previous 3 Superbowls, the only time you had a bye (if I'm not mistaken) was in 2003, you were the #1 Seed (14-2) earning a bye and homefield advantage throughout. Obviously, we all know the outcome as you went on to win the SB against Carolina

In 2006, my Chargers did not fare so well. We were the #1 Seed (14-2) earning a bye and homefield advantage throughout, only to lose our first game in the second round against the Pats.

Now 2007, we have the UNDEFEATED New England Patriots (16-0). You have made history by going undefeated, and I can only imagine how much of an emotional "high" this had to have been for your team, and the fans.

I know Belichik is known for being able to prepare his teams, no question. However, this year is a little different.

Coming off such an emotional high followed by 2 weeks of down time, does this help or hurt the Pats?

we had the bye week for all three SB wins. we only had homefield all the way in the 2003 Season. so, i'd say it helps us and will help us this year as well.
