Does everybody understand what we're getting with Adalius Thomas?

So it seems to be that people who know me and who like to talk sports with me and etc have the wrong general idea about the type of player we are getting.

Some people look at the Stats and say "hes a sack machine that will tackle" They look at his 28 sacks in 3 seasons (the last 3) and his 239 tackles and figure hes a run stopping blitzing OLB.

The point of this thread is this mans true presence wont be shown in the stats.

The only stat that matters is winning a fourth Lombardi, and AD will play a key role in achieving that.

Instinct? I'll take the instinct of any player that DROPS TO THE GROUND upon the attainment of any turnover. Instinct defers to thoughtfulness when it applies. The job of the defense is to get the ball. Failing that, it is to deny its progress.

I'm still giddy that we got Thomas. Save maybe Brady and Seymour, he is the best player we have. Phenom.

No player will amass a lot of sacks in the Belichick defense. That isn't what the system is all about. Belichick feels that is an overrated stat to begin with. He rather have a Qb make a bad decision throwing under a lot of pressure rather than have him lose five yards with a sack. The Pats can create more opportunities with the former.

Thomas will be asked to be more diciplined than he was in the baltimore system. He could freelance more there, but here he will need to be smarter about his rushes. I fully expect his sack total to drop, but he could be a much more effective player doing so.

I disagree. I see him as a menace from the OLB spot. He will be like Willie Mac, and with Colvin back to full strength on the other side...He will be very effective.

Hell, even Tully B-C was very good as a pass rusher from that spot and frankly he's a JAG.

If Belichick plays him in that position most of the time, I agree with you.

Colvin and Thomas from the outside behind the front 3 looks great. Inside LB needs some attention.
