Wanted to let everyone know that Devin Hester, the PR/KR from University of Miami (FL) will be foregoing his senior season to enter the NFL draft. This kid has no position out on defense or offense. If you had to, you think of a dime or nickel coverage back at BEST. At least that's what I say, Miami hardly played him out there. But, even so, his PR/KR skills are PHENOMENAL. Ridiculous. And it seems we could use help in both departments IF Bethel's gone by the end of the season. What say you, oh intelligent Pats fans? Do we snag this guy with a Day One pick?

i think if he is there in the 3rd round we have to take him, he is soo fast, and very versatile, which BB likes, we need a wideout if DG leaves, and he can play 3rd down back and be a nickel corner plus i think he is faster then Bethel and would help us out big time in the ST department

He will be long gone before the 3rd round.

Dont be so sure there Patskers. This man is a player WITHOUT a position. You think of people the Patriots pick up and say "Oh he'd fit in well in the dime coverage or nickel coverage." This guy can't even play Penny coverage. Even so, I say he's worth a shot with one of our twenty five third round picks (how many do we have? Isnt it three?)

He's someone I'd consider with one of the 3rd round picks. They have too many pressing needs in the secondary and at LB to take Hester earlier...

I rather take Will Blackmon from BC. He too is a man without a defined position, but has similar return abilities and is more of a proven corner (look back at the tape of the Pitt game 2 years ago when he shut down Larry Fitzgerald). He has more size and equavalent speed. Also, he is a stand-up kid with no problems on/off the field.

Hester is faster then blackmon, and has much better return abilities

I don't think you can take him period. We have three specialists on the team in Paxton plus the two kickers. This team's too good, I think, to carry another guy who only sees the field a couple times a game and does nothing else.

And you know this how? Many are questioning Hester's speed and are you really going to draft a guy just to return kicks in the top 3 rounds? He was demoted from the nickel back in Miami's D - how could he play corner in the league?

hester has BB size, 5'11'' and i think he would be able to play CB at a high level, plus, he cant be worse then Pacman Jones was this year, plus you get that extras boost in the STs department

I know this because i have seen both many times...in real life...there is a noticeable difference in return skills between the two...

Why do you think will blackmon got moved to WR, he has about the same coverage skills as hester -

He got moved, and I know this because I went to BC, have good friends on the team, and know Blackmon himself, because in the ACC we needed a WR with game breaking abilities. He was the only person with the speed and shiftyness to beat better corners. He was more of an impact player for BC at the WR position because there was no depth there. We had depth at the CB position.

I'd spend a 3rd on Blackmon, if he's there, but I wouldn't touch Hester before the 5th.

Wouldn't even think about touching him. He has shown no desire to learn the defensive playbook to earn a starting role as a CB and is a very undsicpline route runner as a WR. He also has shown attitude problems, and has lashed out at his coaches before. He's nothing but a KR, and he wasn't even that good at that this year.

I agree 100%. His one KR this year was against Temple, a team that is so miserable the Big East dropped them.

On a another note, I love the guys that "think" he can play CB at this level. He could not play at the college level and now he is gonna stop the likes of Chad Johnson/Moss/Smith etc...DOUBTFUL. Pac-Man Jones dominated in college and has thus far been awful. Hester would be worth taking in the fifth and beyond, no earlier.

As for Blackmon, I believe he will go some where in the 2nd but if he is there late in the third for us, it would be a nice addition.

Athletically Hester should be able to turn into a good corner. I wouldn't bet against BB and Mangini turning him into a good player if we got him. I think Blackmon is the better CB, while Hester is faster and a better KR. I wouldn't be dissapointed with either in the 3rd.
