That the Patriots didn't immediately send Devlin to IR makes it seem that they are at least considering the option of IR-DTR. Maybe they are waiting to see what they have on roster or if anybody comes available after cutdowns before they make a decision. They might wait until the last cutdown to 53 to make their decision. Maybe they give him an injury settlement and outright release him.

I'd be crushed if they released him.

My bad. He sat out the 2nd 1/2 of practice on 8/7. He stayed on the field but did not return.

So he would need to be IT-DTR.

Unfortunate but a FB simply isn't a position to use IR-DTR or hold an empty roster spot for 6+ weeks. He's a great player and seems like the teammates absolutely love him, he'll be back next year for sure.
