Patriots Injury News David Thomas suffers Broken Foot

"IF" they take a tightend "I think" that it will be Ben Patrick. He can block, run routes and catch. Damn, I was so hoping for an all defense draft. The D needs some young reinforcements, IMO.

I could see this pick happening...

ding ding ding idng

With the 24th selection in the 2007 draft, the New England Patriots select..Greg Olsen, TE Miami.
Sure, and after selecting a TE who cannot block, BB uses pick 28 to select a LB who cannot tackle.

Time for Garrett Mills to show us something!

and about drafting Olsen at #24, I would first chuckle because we stole him from the jests. Then I would throw my tv out the window.

I'm not inside Piolichick's head, but I don't see an injury (that may be minor) to a guy who's a valuable asset but not at the top of the depth chart affecting the Draft Strategy at this late stage.

Not at the top of the depth chart? If Graham and Watson both counted as starters last year, then don't Watson and Thomas this year? I hope, hope hope it's nothing major! I really like Thomas.

I'd be shocked by Olsen, not because of the position but because of the player...he's seriously overrated, IMO. I don't think any TE is worth a 1st this year.

This probably ,eans PUP for Thomas..which is OK..and maybe PUP to start teh year..depending. BUT that is OK..looks like it may be time for Mills or Kranchick to show what they have,
it MAY mean the team will look more for a receiver than a pure blocking tight end....I REALLY doubt Olsen..but Patrick might be OK....
There are also some blocking TEs that are available Day 2 or UDFA.

Let's not get too hasty here. There are lots of ways of "breaking a foot," not all of which require missing six months.

I think the TE we should be keeping an eye on is Ben Patrick, not Olsen.

They've also brought in two tightends for a visit to Foxboro: Ben Patrick and Joe Newton.

I worked with Joe Newton's dad so I payed attention to his college career. Newton is slow (real slow), but has the intangibles the Patriots look for. Decent hands, decent blocker, very determined hard worker. Perhaps too slow for the NFL. He catches touchdowns.

I hope we draft him late as he is better than his predacessor (Euhus) who the Bills drafted

Even if Thomas takes the maximum healing time for a broken foot, which is a pretty vague term, he should be back before the season starts, barring any setbacks.

A broken foot does not require 4 months to heal. If it is a small

bone, it takes 3 to 6 weeks. If it is the larger bone, it takes 6 to 10

weeks. This would indicate he would be ready to start the season.

As a worse case scenerio, he would probably be PUP for most of training camp.

Remember Ted Washington, he missed about 10 weeks which would put Thomas' return a couple weeks into camp but before preseason games. Barring setbacks this shouldn't be an issue.

Classic pre-draft misdirection by our front office. We've already announced the Maroney injury which will make some people think RB. This makes people think TE. Of course, our needs at safety, corner and both LB positions were already known. It allows the Pats to bluff if there is a TE or RB sitting there and a trading partner doesn't know if the Pats will take "their guy."

Interesting this information comes out the night before the draft. During the season the Pats are so quiet about injuries, now the Thomas broken foot information leaks out hours before the draft. Could it be the Pats are trying to bait the Jets into trading up for Olsen? Just a thought.

If Greg Olsen falls in their laps, I'll bet money that they use one of their first round picks on him.

I don't like Olsen for this team. Supposidely, scouts say "his blocking is non-existent....oversized wideout" and he had 6 career touches in almost 30 starts. These are reaons why he may drop.

It looks like Yahoo fell for it hook line and sinker. They show Marshan Lynch.

OH ****! Now the Pats will think this is a good excuse to take a TE in the first round. "With the 24th pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select.......Greg Olsen, TE, University of Miami".
