Darrelle Revis Rumors and Speculation

This is my predication – the Patriots will trade a 2015 conditional draft pick to Tampa (it will be a third to fifth round pick depending on performance and roster status). Revis will take a pay cut and drop the $1.5M roster bonus and $1.5M workout bonus and we will pay him $13M for 2014, if he plays well and the team is happy with him they will look at a complete restructure/extension in 2015s offseason.

Why would Revis do that when he's do to get a huge deal in Free Agency with way more guaranteed money and he choose the team? If oft-injured Talib got $26M guaranteed Revis should get north of $30M guaranteed and an average payout of around $14-15M/year.

I can only imagine Jet's fans heads are exploding right now at the possibility of revis on the pats

you make the trade to prevent an all out bidding war, which we know is not the patriots way. making the trade gives you exclusive negotiating rights...obviously the player has leverage, but the team still has a window to make a deal without others (legally) having the ability to make offers.

You don't make the trade unless he's willing to restructure though. Nobody is throwing picks at a player for 16m a year hoping to restructure, it has to be pretty much agreed upon by player and team. The whole exclusive negotiating rights thing goes out the window. If a restructuring can't get done and a team doesn't want to pay him 16m, they're assed out of a pick for a player that they're just going to cut.

read my posts in thread before critiquing incorrectly...I said a contingent draft pick based on restructure. the post you are referring to states why you make the trade, not the terms of the trade (which was discussed by me a little earlier)

My hope now is that a team doesn't pony up the supposed 5th round pick it would take to acquire Revis' rights if NE is in the running for him.

If you were making the decision, knowing what Talib and the other CBs were paid, do you send a 5th round pick and assume Revis' contract to guarantee he is yours? Or wait for TB to release him and hope you can sign him?

Dude you are worried about Fifth Round pick for a Elite Shut Down one side of the Field CB? Shhh I would give Tampa a 2nd Right now for him, as good as Talib has played he's no Darrelle Revis.

He would make $13M a season and be part of a winning franchise. Who do you think is getting more endorsement deals right now him or Richard Sherman? Revis made less than $1M on endorsements last season. He is not going to earn more money playing for the Raiders.

They can calm down because there's no conceivable possibility that Belichick is going to pry open the wallet with a crowbar and pay Revis $16M per year. The good news for Pats fans is that there are still solid options available at that position. But Revis isn't coming here. It's a pipe dream that a lot of you need to let go of.

he would still go to a winning team and get endorsements if he goes to free agency. And he'll get double the guaranteed money.

I do not think he is worried about the guaranteed money, he signed that deal last season and he could have gotten guaranteed money.

Give them a 6th rounder, hold him to the eve of training camp, then threaten to cut him if he doesn't restructure down to $13m a year (give him bonuses to make it palatable).

How many teams are going to snap Revis up for $14-15m in August?

This.

I don't know what to think sincerely, if I want this guy in NE or not.

This behavior is unacceptable and I have my questions about his locker room behavior, also signing him now would seem like a desperate try to compensate the loss of Talib and not typical BB behavior.

On the other hand, what he can do on a man coverage a few people can.

He was drafted by the Jets and traded to Tampa Bay, and remember the Jets went deep into the playoffs a couple of years while he was there, so it wasn't all crap. And the bucs is a team that was loaded on paper.

Nobody is going to pay him 16 a year. I could see bill paying 12-13 a year but nothing over that. He's not worth 14-16 a year, very few defenders are if any.

Incarcerated Bob checks in:

**BREAKING NFL NEWS**Source: Jets officials stating they want nothing to do with Revis (Browns/Pats leaders) Niners/Philly on outskirts #IBN

I guess that means the Jets fans can start to get their Revis jerseys out of cold storage because he is now likely to sign with the Jets if Bob say they don't want him. No way the Pats or Browns sign him now that he declare them the leaders.

I said this in another thread, so I might as well repeat it: Look at what Shields and Talib just got. Neither are in Revis' league as a corner. He can, and probably will command near that figure and there are a good amount of teams that have more cap space and more of a need to make a move like that to settle down the fanbase than the Pats. He also has a history of going to the highest bidder. All things considered, it's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to see him coming here.

All due respect, but Revis doesn't have a history of going to the highest bidder because he was never on the open market. We don't know what he will do in a bidding war.

I doubt he will take a major discount to go to the Pats or anyone out. But if the Pats' offer is slightly lower than say Cleveland, he might opt to go to New England to win and not have to fight Joe Hayden on who will be covering the #1 receiver each week.

I know it's a long shot even with all the reports linking them. I know especially with him money talks in the past but hopefully he's willing to put winning first for once.

Ian Rapaport just reported that the Patriots are interested in trading for Revis.

Which makes a lot of sense to me.

You trade for him, you control him and his restructure.

You threaten to cut him at the start of the season, or to carry his $16m for a year, and you see if it clarifies his mind a little bit about a $13m a year deal.

Trading for him by giving up a 6th or 7th isn't a bad idea.

Ian Rapoport ? @RapSheet On Darrelle Revis, yes, the #Patriots have been among those who have called to express interest in a trade. Doesn’t plan to take a pay cut.

That wallet isn't getting pried open for Revis. Browner, Tillman, DRC, etc. are all more believable options.

Not worried about it at all actually. I would give a 2nd rounder for him. I just asked a question. It has more to do with paying him the $16M/yr or not.
