Danny Etling

There were the quotes from Ian O’Conners book last summer attributed to Patriot coaches saying something to the effect that Brady was overvalued because they could coach someone else up and win with that QB.

Brady is Brady and there will never be another QB with his once-in-a-lifetime intangibles. But, you have to admit that he doesn’t bring 1st round tangibles to his game. I think those quotes are very consistent with the approach to team building we’ve seen here for 19 years. You don’t need premium tangibles at the QB position as Brady has proven.

Time will tell if it’s Etling or someone else, but I think it’s likely that Brady’s successor is a coached up lower round prospect than someone they tank for or trade away the farm to move up and draft.

Etling equals “yawn”.

But after Sunday he will own a super bowl ring!

Yep ... but he's horrible.

He is a better than average QB, has started 37 games in the NFL and has a positive TD/INT ratio. He has been one of the better second string QBs in the league for a while. Not sure what else to expect from your backup quarterback.

Etling has a pretty big mountain to climb to surpass him on the depth chart.

Was pondering what had become of Danny the other day?? Wasn't sure if he was still on the practice squad.

If he is spending the amount of time they claim he is at the QB finishing school at Gillette, he has to improve, if not he is just a memory..

Remember the leap that #12 took from year one to year two?? Maybe the same is in store for Danny... no one will ever be another #12, but perhaps there is a "reasonable facsimile thereof" out there...

It will be interesting to see him in camp. If he takes a real step up he may threaten Hoyer. If he stagnates maybe a case of going back to PS, or the start of a bouncing around the league as a back up/PS member journey. None of us here know yet, and Bill isn't likely to tell us much, believe it or not.

Etling gonna roll Dynasty 5.0

Brady needs to finish 3.0 and start and finish 4.0 first

2 lines from that story caught my attention:

Hoyer said. “He’s a hard worker. He’s one of the hardest workers in the building. He loves football. You combine those two, you are always going to be improving. I think he’s done those things. He asks good questions when he’s in our room.”

"I think he has got a lot better a lot a lot of things — footwork, drops, throwing mechanics."
Schuplinski

So Does Ettling spoend the offseason working out with Tom House and studying in Foxboro? It will be interesting to see if he has the potential to develop into something.

Maybe BB took a shot on a guy with good character, work ethic who couldimprove in that area, kind of like Brady. It's a longshot, but guys that are all athletic ability nosedive when they can't handle the mental aspect, cant keep up. I think chad Pennington could have been a great QB, but he was good even with a pop gun for an arm. The list of physical specimens who couldn't run an offense is too long to mention.

Of course he was a 7th. They'll find somebody else somewhere. I think they'll rescue some traumatized young qb from an inpatient team. Teams draft QBs very high, throw them in before they're ready, keep changing the offensive system etc. It happens every year.
