Damn Gregg Williams to Jets as DC

I've been against this clown ever since he and The Mustache had Bobby Wade goon up Rodney Harrison in the regular season finale in 06. I look forward to Gregg getting his ass handed to him twice before he gets fired.

Well, the Jete have been running some form of a 3-4 base since forever. Williams is all about an aggressive, one-gapping 4-3.

So, I give him maybe three seasons.
- 2019 will be all about trying to fit round pegs into square holes
- the 2020 off-season will be all about shedding the round pegs, thus encumbering the Jete cap with even more dead money, and trying to replace them with square pegs
- then, after 2021 and the Jete defense is still crap, they'll finally fire him, and Gruden will hire him for the Raiders

Nice spot for Williams. Inexperienced QBs in division.

He only needs to pony up a bounty for Brady.

I didn't know Damn was his first name.

Why, because they lost a mediocre coach?
The Browns defense is rated higher than the Pat's. Williams defense struggled vs the run which is puzzling because he had a top 5 run D in 2017.

Now they are changing defenses again.

Gregg Williams in talks with Jets for DC position

Here we are a day later, 'in talks', 'should' happen.

This one reeks of agent posturing, just like the Mike McCarthy thread.

McCarthy went from wanting the CLE job to only wanting the NYJ job to wanting to spend time with his family, LOL.

Then, boom, Gase comes out of nowhere and gets the job.

It was all agent spin, just like this report seems to be.

Yep, and da Jete just dumped two 2nd rounders to get Darnit and they have NO talent on the O side of the ball, no draft capital to fix either O or D, and now potentially a loose cannon like Williams who is going to talk McCagnon into drafting more safeties and wasting away any chance of developing Darnit.

We can all see this one coming a mile away, clear as day.

Same. Old. Freaking. Jete.

Building on their 50 year record of suckage.

He’s okay, dirty coach.

I am not sure when Gregg Williams suddenly became this great DC. The guy has been a mixed bag throughout his career. He has led some very good defenses and some really mediocre defenses. He seems to be a Wade Phillips type of DC. He comes into a program and turns a mediocre defense into a top defense quickly and then it falls apart in subsequent years. But where Phillips tends to get two to three years before the whole thing falls apart, Williams seems to only get one or two years. See the Saints and Redskins.
If you saw Hard Knocks you can also see he's much more of an alpha male than Gase is.

If Gase hires Williams, he's hiring his own assassin, IMHO.

There's no way that team ends up with the kind of discipline and unity a team needs to win.

It's much more likely the team will break up into the Gase faction vs. the Williams faction.

The end result will be Gase gets fired, Williams becomes Interim Coach and lasts less than half a season.

Basically, it'll be CLE redux, with far less talent and draft capital to work with.
