Damien Harris & Jakobi Meyers

Harris is our present and future RB1 (or at least the leader of a committee). Meyers and Byrd should be #3 and #4 on a real WR depth chart, so they're also part of the solution. As for the rest of the skill position players on this offense? Blow it up. Probably keep White though.
First, we need to re-sign Byrd.

If we had a QB who has a real ability to pass Meyer's numbers would be a lot better. He always seems to create separation when he's got man coverage and knows where to find holes in zone coverage. Brady really should have feasted with him.
Harris's numbers would be better, too, as opposing defenses would have to respect the passing game and not always first look to stop the run.

They are starting to stand out.

Pats RBs in the BB era with atleast 100 carries:

Pats WRs in the BB era with atleast 60 career receptions:

Excellent hands by Meyers and he gets open a ton and catches what's thrown.
Excellent trucking by Harris, he has 3.8 yards after opponent contact, extremely impressive.
Both are the future. It was absolute BS that Harry started over Meyer in the Cardinals game. I guess it mattered less given that Meyers played more snaps. But time to make Harris and Meyers the permanent starters.

.

One snap for Sony. Happy to see him not stealing carries.

J McCourty with only 31 snaps - the fewest for a DB except Myles Bryant. Duggar and Philips playing a lot. That is a good sign for the defense. If we play more 2 safeties over the top J McCourty will probably play more. These next two games are with much less mobile QBs, so the pass rush will not have to contain as much and can rush more. The Defensive schemes are getting more complicated each week, so hopefully the new guys are coming up to speed.

We have found a lot of good young pieces this year.

we fill a couple holes to fill and we have a solid roster.

However, in the nfl there are only two types of teams. Those with a franchise qb a d those without. We are in the without group at the moment.

I'm surprised at how often Meyers is being used in the "pseudo-flex TE" position blocking in the box against LBs and DEs. That doesn't look like it's good for longevity, especially for a relatively lanky guy like he is. At least when Edelman did it, he's the same weight but relatively more stout.

I would support this assessment

I'm already sold on Damien Harris. He'll come back down to Earth a bit with his stats but I love what I've seen. Meyers has been pretty good, and it's a real shame that they didn't play him for weeks, instead watching N'Keal Harry do absolutely nothing. I think both Meyers & Byrd both have a place on this team moving forward. I like what I've seen from them but their roles are as #3 & #4 receivers. I don't watch the All-22's but some people have said that our receivers get open more than we'd think but Cam is having trouble delivering which isn't difficult to believe.

I don't get why people keep saying Meyers is a #3 or #4. Meyers put up a monster game that when you look at the list, literally the only other people to have games that Jacobi Meyers did a couple weeks ago are all receivers in the Patriot Hall of Fame. All Meyers does is get open, have the best catch % of any Patriot WR in many years, and be reliable over and over. Meyers is at worse a starting #2, but given how Edelman was basically our top receiver for a half dozen years, I don't see why Meyers isn't immediately our top receiver and one who can keep doing this for many years as a 1000 yard WR.

Harris, yes for sure he's the RB1 and in my opinion could be as good as Derrick Henry. Certainly a worthy replacement finally for Blount at worse case scenario.

That last game, he was getting wide open at times against perennial Pro Bowler and 3 time All Pro Patrick Peterson. I'm not sure if it's just lack of film on JM, but I figure a guy like PP (who's probably slowed down a pinch) would've seen it all at this point.

Exactly. I don't get why people keep downplaying this kid. He's the classic guy of forget the 40 times or whatever other criticism. All the kid does is get open, and once open catch with great hands. He's an excellent football player. He's already way better than a #2 on most teams. He just has the IT factor. I don't want to list huge names but he's like those guys who don't shine at the nfl combine but are extremely extremely productive at their position of football.

This. If we can get one legit #1 than I'm definitely happy with Meyers as our #2. If we can get a #1 plus any production at all from the tight end position, then this offense could take a huge leap. (I'm already penciling in better qb play for next year, be that from Cam with a whole offseason, or someone else).

Meyers is a #3 on a team with, in the words of Rick Pitino Sr, championship aspirations...Still not too shabby for a UDFA...

Debating whether he's a #2 or a #3 is kinda somewhat a little bit completely pointless.

Also, it may very well turn out he's a nice #2 if he has any help from his QB, the other WRs, and a TE. Considering he has none of that at the moment, it's extremely difficult to assess what his actual ceiling is. I'm still very happy with how he's trending and hope for the best.
