Looks like he hurt his hand, requiring surgery on his pinkie...

so is our second year rb going to get a chance to make a splash this year? or will this cause him to be buried on the depth chart?

Losing out on fournette now stings a little bit more...

I wouldn’t say we lost out on Fournette we could have claimed him. But yes it is frustrating to see our offense depleted of talent while Tampa gets richer.

Is this still true?

If the Patriots decide they have to place Harris on injured reserve with a designation to return, he would have to miss the first eight weeks of the regular season. If he starts the season on PUP, he can't play or practice for the first six weeks.

Who is this a quote from? PUP isn't an option.

the nfl did change the IR rules this season ... off the top of my head, i do not know what the current rules are... so I cannot say for sure ... but if they want to short term him on the ir, just have him come down with covid... stash him on the exepmt list for a short stay...

so much misinformation...

3 options:
1. On the roster, waiting out the injury,
2. on injured reserve before cutdown and thus ineligible for the whole year,
3. on injured reserve after cutdown and thus eligible for return after 8 weeks (edit: for this year, possible return is now after 3 weeks, with a window of 3 weeks after missing 3 weeks)

No PUP after you've practiced
Plus, there is no longer such a thing as designation to return. You have to make the 53, though, first.

Tough break. He might have had the best training camp of anyone

Temporary IR is a minimum of 3 games missed this season, down from 8.

This is why you keep a stable of good backs.

This says that you have to test positive for COVID

Has that changed?

From PFT (Clarifying the 2020 injured reserve/COVID-19 rules - ProFootballTalk):

The 2020-only rules, which become effective after 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 6, will allow the team to remove any player with a football or non-football injury from the roster for three weeks. After three weeks, the player will be eligible to return to practice. Once he returns to practice, the team will have 21 days to place him back on the active roster.

This applies to all injuries, football or non-football. The unprecedented flexibility to park players on IR/NFI and to bring them back after only three games comes from a broader desire to ensure that the maximum number of players are available to play this season, in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak.

COVID cases don't go onto IR but onto the Exempt list. Which is relevant because there they will not lose any compensation:

As to players who test positive for COVID-19, even more flexibility will apply. A player with a confirmed diagnosis will be placed on the Exempt/Commissioner Permission List.

Not to worry. Michel has been the picture of health throughout his entire career. Same with Miller and Burkhead. We will be fine.

In a pinch we can sign Kenjon Barner if Corredelle isn't ready to take RB snaps.

Unlimited players on IR?

The games with this system will be interesting.
That and Covid are why I’m not playing fantasy football this year. Should be fun to just watch football for football’s sake.

We didn't lose out on anyone. The guy was unlikely to end up here from the start.
If we showed interest in him, contacted his agent etc then indeed we did lose out on signing him... Regardless it's my opinion on the matter, you don't have to share it

No, the Patriots always do diligence on an available player. It doesn't always mean they want or can afford the player ultimately. That's why they're great at what they do.
