I think Jimmy has some leverage here that nobody really has brought up yet. If you're JG the only way you're happy staying here and wasting another year of your career as a backup is if you know Brady is gone after next year. On top of that, if Brady IS done after this year, wouldn't it make sense for the Patriots to franchise JG for his true tryout season? With multiple open jobs, does it make sense for JG to start the holdout talk right now and force his way out of town via trade? Obviously the down side is being viewed as a petulant primadonna, but QBs have pulled worse in the past (Elway, Eli.) If he's a stud that'll be forgotten by week 4 anyway.
If I'm JG I am shooting my way out of town now so I can avoid potentially waiting until the 2019 season to sign that next contract. Get on a team that just invested in you and will be likely to give you a starter-level contract regardless of how year one goes.
I don't see it happening but I think it's interesting to view this from JG's perspective and see another scenario arise.
